Retirement

  • Damaging the rotator cuff, frozen shoulder and arthritis are all shoulder injuries that can be experienced by plasterers. Anything that’s a repetitive action is going to place stress on the shoulder
  • A lot of injuries caused are when skimming ceilings, over time the joints start to wear when you twist and move in peculiar ways and the pressure is always on to get the ceiling finished
  • Driving a long distance sitting in the same position and then moving suddenly and twisting as you begin plastering can cause injury
  • With an ‘itus’ or inflammation it’s about resting it
  • Plasterers can suffer from Plantar fasciitis because of incorrect footwear and being up and down ladders
  • Plastering is a hard job, you need to keep fit and get into a routine of doing something every day
Find wearing some towny air max on domestics helped with a heel problem and decent safety trainers like DeWalt sorted that on site work

Have had back problems but getting into the gym 1-2 times a week and doin the exercises the physio has sorted that .... definitely going the gym helped

Further expose retirement is con —-
& something I learned

One of the lads on job @55yrs - He wants to cash out the lot - his fuxin pathetic 40k private pension
The process is 25%tax free @ rest is taxed .

However
In uk in order to do that legally :you have to take financial advice first @ your cost -some advisors want 2.5% of the pension pot -or a fixed fee ./@ financial advisor has to sign he has given advise, with a corresponding letter to the pension provider, in order for him to have his own money …

He must be a horse, financial advice is recommended not a legal requirement.

I said same - he proved me wrong- with the paperwork - if over 30k & taking the whole pot -@ before his death sentence -it can not be cashed out until you have financial advice & proof you had the advice.

cousin has lived in usa for past 40 years,
retired , and ian and val , decided to drive from new york to san francisco where they lived,
stopping off at hotels along the way,
retirement trip of a lifetime,
just 3 weeks ago , they started the trip,
2 days into the holiday , parked up outside hotel , walked into reception, collapsed and died,
he had been retired 9 days,
after working all his life, pension/savings etc,
now explain that to me

If you have advice you don't have to take it. You can also get it free.

Bad luck. But just goes to show you should retire as soon as you can.

If it makes me money or saves me tax, happy to take advice from anyone

Those clowns have made /sold some of the worst decisions ever .

I have always done the opposite of what a financial advisor said …They once told me to NOT purchase a house because of subsidence

Best thing I ever did was purchase it

If he didn't tell you what to do, you couldn't have done the opposite, so in effect he helped you make the decision, so he did his job.
But I agree there advice shouldn't be taken without a lot of thought.

Or maybe you're better off not retiring at all?
I've known a few guys over the years who've died shortly after retiring and have wondered if it would be better to slow down, but keep doing a bit to keep the mind and body active?
I agree a lot of people can't cope with retirement and it's more stressful not having that routine. Sad really.
Personally, slowing down didnt work for me, because you still had to make a commitment to a day/time, which always seemed to end up the best day/days of the week.

Can’t wait until I get old and retire not because I stop working it’s because it gives me a free pass to s**t myself and some poor f**k*r has to clean me up
