    Doing an invoice

Just checked this and they've withdrawn this service now - and charge £7.50 a month for what was a 'free forever' service.. Better check to ee if they have started charging us - if so I think we'll be moving :RpS_cursing:

    Doing an invoice

No.. we've been with them for years. The catch is you can't use the counter service in the bank to do transactions - everything has to be done by post, telephone or online (or via the ATM). They send you prepaid envelopes to post cheques and ATM envelopes for cash and cheques, it's a pain but it...

    Doing an invoice

Santander do a free business account but it's postal or machine only (there's always a catch..) We use it. Cash goes into an envelope and into the cash machine, cheques go into an envelope and are posted or put into a machine. No charges for paying in or paying out.

Van stolen from Liverpool this morning

That's awful news, they want tying to a chair and have 6" nails hammered through their kneecaps! Smash their ankles though, not knees with a baseball bat - takes longer to heal... Local scumbag came up to us when we had our windscreen put through - he said he'd do lots of stuff but never...

Hi, new to this but after advice

Yeah, it's also bloody expensive! Priced it up to use on ceilings where they had moulded cornice.. Used it before on a job and it is good stuff for curves as it has fibreglass layers in it.

    Finishing with blue blade speedskim

I remember at Tech college my old lecturer used to say "pressure = force over area, to simplify it imagine a fat bird wearing stilettos standing on your foot..." I don't use a pole when working on walls, too cumbersome.

    MTEC 300 on ebay ...

Anything expensive and I'd want to go and see it first. Sod the cost of travelling as Stuart says, there's been several con jobs recently. After-all if it's on a buy it now you can do just that (and barter a bit unless you pay by paypal then you have a bit of a guarantee should it go tits up)...

    women in plastering

The domestic market would suit her I reckon - I expect a lady customer who wants some work doing will be more inclined to have a female do it when available. Might be sexist towards men but it works for G** plasterers and the pink pound (as I'm sure some on here will attest to :rolleyes))

Last time I used a MT was about 13 years ago when I had a SS 13". I couldn't get on with it as I kept catching the heal. Bought a Tyzack Centenary double tang after that and have had a few. Still got my last one which took a long while to break in (nearly chucked it at one point). Now use the...

Hi, new to this but after advice

I'd tell them to turn it off then go back after a few days to pva and patch it as a goodwill gesture. Where we're doing a biggish job we noticed a dehumidifier and told the customer to not use it as it dries it out too fast. Tell them it was their responsibility to inform you of any device that...

    Finishing with blue blade speedskim

I'll just clean it when I'm done. I'll flatten it one way then cross the other way. If I get a hollow I'll just wipe a bit off onto my trowel then fill before going over it again with the Speedskim. I don't want to go over it too much as I like to give the first trowel with out water. Tbh, it...

    Finishing with blue blade speedskim

With ceilings I'll flatten both coats with the 1200mm Speedskim then use our 600mm Speedskim on a pole and go over it a few times till it's about as good as I can get then trowel it (one dry, then one with very little water). Certainly takes the effort out of it.

    board ceiling?

One customer asked us to sort the cracks out in their bedroom ceiling, they didn't want it plastering.. We cut the cracks out into a v the flat of a Stanley knife and filled with flexible filler, then flattened with a brush and trowel - job done. Cracks haven't come back. We said the only way...

    Doing an invoice

This is without material. Materials would have to be taken off the gross amount as tax is already paid on them. Tax at 20% is taken off the labour only. Unless you want to pay a bit more tax and hopefully get a lower bill at the end of the year - or even a refund :rolleyes)

Not tried the spat properly yet, been wanting to try one for ages but have it down to a tee with the SF and Speedskim. Now I've got one I'm wondering at what point I should try the spat? Tried it briefly on a ceiling instead of the SF for first trowel but was taking to much off.

    Do you like plastering?

Indeed.. When it gets freezing cold though and you're in a house with no heating.. Getting changed into your overalls that are still damp from the day before.. Firing up the calor gas fire to get warm.. Though snap time its toasted sarnies in front of the fire. ..it's coming that time of year...

    Left hander!

One thing used to puzzle me when I first started, why do r/handers float right to left and then skim left to right? Surly if skimming a largish set then you are starting on the wetter side and finishing on the drier? (if you float in the morning and skim in the afternoon).
