Works both ways Zombie. I have seen the mess that "tradesmen" have left in some houses and been paid in full. Maybe a pay after your happy system should be put in place, however I don't know who would police that. At the end of the day it's up to the customer. Who knows ??

    mybuilder

Spot on Simon, the guys not hiding anything, he's on here for advice trying to improve himself and leave as good a job as he can. Whether he has done an apprenticeship or not is irrelevant, I know a lot of tradesmen over the whole building game that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire cos...

I Want to get in to flow screed!!

Think we might have bought some of that off you a few years ago when we did it, as there was a bit of a cartel going on in Scotland with Flo screeds.. was ideal for smaller jobs, we mixed it with a few things like concrete sand and whin dust..

    Seeking advice please

Beads, beads! The best thing I have learnt from this forum( well actually from the machine forum before this one, Stuart's mate, sorry his name has gone, Steve?. )but he said EVERYWHERE render stops there must be a bead, never a truer word said, I bead round everything and it looks awesome at...

    cracked render

Nothing like coming to a conclusion with no facts FFS. When does he say it was built in his post? The probable reason it has not cracked everywhere is probably down to exposure to temperature and sunlight (my opinion) I could be wrong but I'm not blaming anyone...

Mortar joints leaking in on new extension

Yeah, well said, something obviously seriously amiss on that job. someone needs to go round and have a look for this person! the cavity is there for a reason so water should not be getting into property whether joints were not filled properly or not, more alarmingly ( if that's a word) the...

Faith in building game restored (short term).

As much as I love doing what I do, this building game is shite and your up against it constantly, with everything being scrutinised to death. I have worked on a few hydro schemes and nothing gets checked (money was good)but they were painting blocks I had just laid FFS but fire them up and get...

    No more handball!!!!

Thanks Rigsby, will try and get my act together as I may have a guinea pig to try it with. It will be onto new block work, should I go to someone and get a proper spec or is there a system you or anyone would recommend? Thanks..

    No more handball!!!!

What with being in the dark ages, don't knock me down here :-) but, what I usually do is bed all my (15mm) beads on and scratch with either a base coat or s+c, then I top coat. But is there a system where I could just stick my 15mm beads on tight, spray on a render one pass then prime and stick...

    Bay window project

FFS!! Usually if I ask someone for advice I take it, that's the whole reason is it not? Personally I agree with pops, think he knows what he is talking about, however I see his input has been blanked so why don't you save some more money and use thin set beads with multi-finish and it'll be...

    External painted render in sunlight

Bricklayers lay bricks do they not? I would say 'builder' is a word loosely used to describe a guy who runs a firm that builds houses. The trouble here is you only hear about the bad stories! I am a bricklayer 'builder' so to speak but we have a couple of plasterers in just now helping us finish...

    Where are you working today?

No, I mean the bit from the drip bead, the bit that goes from there up at an angle and blends into the wall, do you bead that or is that just render?

    Where are you working today?

Love that window head detail, looks awesome...nobody will let me try it up in the stix though..how do you do it if you don't mind me asking? Do you have a stop bead up the angle from the window head bead? If that makes sense.. In saying that, most concrete lintels that are meant to be 100mm are...

Cheers Arti, yeah it works well. What layer to put the mesh on?

I would hazard a guess and say the reason it failed the first time is due to there being no cope and therefore water ingress, then freezing/thawing causing crack..unless there was a cope previous??

    couple of s&c renders.

S Sorry, but that just looks nasty. Almost looks like a stop bead put on wrong way round.. My view is, either roughcast/render right up to corner or have a band of smooth render round opening as long as it is 100mm or wider, if it looks fake it looks s**t...
