Dollar is wrong on this occasion Your damp proof surveyor was correct However you’ve been done over by the builder, they may have used a lime backing plaster but they’ve used multi finish to skim I’d say the problem you’ve got there is your backing plaster is allowing the damp from the walls...

Timber is coming back down

Looks more like damp than soot. Has the wall been previously treated with any damp proofing upto that height?

I’m doing the work for a stove shop, it’s a dream come true. They do the knock out, tidy up and lay the hearth, I just do my bit and they come back, line the chimney and fit stove and geocast beam

I’m doing what they pay me for, if they want the full job plastering I’d do it and do 2 a day I agree if I was doing my own I’d do the job lot

I do on my own installations. On these I just do the plastering so do as I’m told
