How to match this plaster effect?

Use easyfill 20. Start with a smooth sealed surface. Scraper or trowel to pattern. Old plaster or old english plaster is the pattern. That's what I called it. Think some called it Spanish troweled...see it on the outside of villas

    Skim over concrete

No dpm under fire place concrete because of heat. Think I'd dampen down. Apply cement and water with a splash of pva in to create a bond. Give it an hour then a bag of leveling screed

    Damp upstairs wall

Get a summer fan in there to move air about. Keep it going as much as possible. Open window a bit when the weather is dry. Air movement is better than heat. Thick plaster and closed room causing drying issues maybe.

    Coving

Some cove adhesive is board adhesive in a different bag flogged for sticking coving. BG stuff is best. Probably the only one that will stick to emulsion I've found. I always sealed surface to help coving stick and never had a problem. I always sealed cut joints and blobbed with adhesive and...

    Hairline crack nightmare

Buy rolls or mesh. Skim and cover walls with mesh. Probably sand and cement over blocks then skimmed. Movement causes the sand and cement to shatter.

    Asbestos concern

Wallpapers used to have asbestos in. They say anything after 1980s will be fine but prior to that who knows. I must of striped wallpaper with asbestos in at some point because of the amount I striped off over the years. Not something you see mentioned or tested.

    Newbie

Everyone is exposed to asbestos at some time during their life. Low levels of asbestos are present in the air, water, and soil. However, most people do not become ill from their exposure A few holes in a material that probably didn't contain asbestos and you are worried?

https://www.armco.org.uk/asbestos-survey-news/asbestos-in-plaster-walls-ceilings/ Asbestos cement was mostly used in commercial buildings and added to walls that were fire-rated such as lift shafts. Therefore, it’s very uncommon to find homes that contain any asbestos in plaster walls and...

    Asbestos concern

I found it once in fireplace plaster mouldings. Never knowingly found in house plaster. Just get a asbestos survey done. Seems it's getting more popular to have a survey done with house sales. Bet you got asbestos somewhere in the house so find out where and leave it alone. Most houses have...

    Distemper

Distemper. Steam or scrape paint off first. Vacuum connected to 80 grade mesh orbital sander and get it off. Don't take long to do then stabilise. I used gardz but other cheaper options at trade centres. Distemper will continue to degrade over time so removing is always best option. Can't get it...

    Overboard or skim

Artex might contain asbestos? I've scraped those back. Orbital sanded the distemper off. Applied gardz. Strengthen joints from above loft side. Skimmed. Lot's of labour involved in that vs boarding.

    Bonding Coat Over Painted Walls

Bonding won't stick to some emulsions. Got a theory it's durable emulsions with the smooth surface. Odd though when it fails as sticks to everything you don't want it to like glass of gloss woodwork. I apply PVA first and so far no problems

    Plaster over artex ceiling

Yeah. Mostly. Depends on distance to job. Size. Thickness and Condition ect. Seen many skimmed artex ceilings where it looks like someone has struggled. Whatever works for you I guess. If you can get it done with no problems in one trip then great.

    Plaster over artex ceiling

Because artex can go soft when sealers are applied over, it's definitely better to seal day before imo. I also dig paper tapes out as they can come off when plastering. Knock nibs off. Dig tapes out ( not often) Seal. Tape. Seal over tapes and leave to dry overnight. Pva and skim.

    Everbuild 406 / PVA / SBR Advice

406 is a polymer emulsion. So its like a waterproof PVA but thinner and better penetrating the surface and binding it together. Will seal so when dry apply a watered down PVA and when sticky skim. Now go Google the word penetrating

Artex is difficult to wash over. T-Bar washer I use if I can, if it is not too rough. That is a real quick way along with cleaning liquid. PVA is fine but buy the good stuff imo.
