met a girl from rugby when I was working away in Portsmouth lets just say she was 'special' couldn't understand a word she or her friends were muttering.

i can imagine this jobs had about 3 different plasterers all starting off cheap with the final spread being the best and muncher realiseing u get what u pay for and half of it being put right. The boarding wouldve been crap with big gaps and not anoth screws or adesive for a good bond, all the skim beads or are they called 'edgeings' wouldnt of been straight, plum or level. Disaster waiting to happen... No wonder u all took the piss out of the poor blokes post :RpS_laugh:
 
Hi guys, it's half boarded upstairs now, should be ready to start the upstairs in 2-3 weeks. The walls have been brushed down and washed with a PVA solution, just started the first bit of dot and dab and it has gone ok so far fro a first attempt.

I spoke to Gibbo a few times, he was due to call me to arrange to come and look at it a few times but I never heard back from him.

The reason for the delay for the delay is because we are doing most of the work ourselves on evenings and weekends.

I don't want a cheap job, I want a good job at a fair rate. There is only one attempt to get it right!

Those gaps at the top of the boards look fantastic, along with all the dri wall all over the front of the boards should make a nice job for someone
 
Building works should be done in a certain order..

1st fix joiners
1st fix plumbers
1st fix electricians
Plastering/dry-lining/backing plasters
plastering/skimming
2nd fix/joiners/plumbers/electrician's

dont try filling the gaps on the boarding with dry wall adhesive, it creates unwanted suction and also the fibre tape will not stick..
 
That's obviously not finished yet. If there is a gap, is it best to leave it at the top or the bottom and then fill in with a small piece of board. The adhesive on the front of the board is just residue, there are no lumps, it is smooth.

Thanks for the tip. That's pretty much the order we have done things. All of the electrical first fix is complete upstairs and the plumbing is 95% there.
 
go and purchase a board lifter, make sure the board hits the ceiling.
wash the excess material off the plasterboard with a sponge.

i know that you are in ipswich, but when most people want water upstairs they use a hose pipe !

The issue I see from some of the pics is you have fitted the bathroom before plastering so the plasterer is going to have skim over the bathroom furniture, which is not ideal at all, a lot will not do it especially if the furniture is expensive..

And then fill in with a piece of board at the bottom? The ceilings downstairs are around 2.8m, so that's going to take a much larger piece of board. It's easier for me to rig up a temporary tap up there than it is to trail a hose pipe from downstairs.

Spanky - The only bathroom furniture which is fixed are 2 shower trays which can be covered (the plumber insisted on that for sealing purposes)
, everything else can be moved out of the rooms, I don't expect (or want) people to work around things.

Right I see, thought the bath was plumbed in and sealed up..

The state of that boarding you won't get a plasterer at a half decent rate I reckon it'll cost you an extra quid a metre at least
