Hi all, long time lurker here finally posting for some advice, love this site fully of great advice, tips and banter. Been plastering for 8 years and the last 2 have involved running my own company mostly on domestic's

I have several B&B's on my books that I do regular work for but back in September a new owner of a B&B approached me for quoting a full bedroom re-skim they moved to the area bought the B&B and said they will have plenty of work to go my way. So I pop along give them a quote and sure enough I got the job and a couple of weeks later I'm there on site. I complete the job and he pays me (by cheque but no problem in the end as it went through fine)

Anyway months go by and on 23rd December he phones me up asking for a refund!
I said what do you mean a refund what's up?
He responds saying he's not happy with the work and would like a refund to get another plasterer in!
I explain that before we talk about money let me pop over see what the problem is as its been 2 months since I completed the work, and I can make good of what your not happy with, if your still not happy after that then fair enough we can look at a refund, he tells me he doesn't want me to come to the B&B again and only wants a refund, again I say let me come over have a look and we can go from there.
Anyway the conversation pretty much ended from there with no outcome.

So here we are the middle of February and he phones me again almost 2 months since the last phone call and 4 months since the work was undertaken asking for a refund, the same conversation goes on and he ends up saying I want a 50% refund or I will write a bad review on you and take this further.

Now before you all shoot me to pieces I can assure you my work is of a good high standard, and I have great reviews across Facebook and the likes.... as well as repeat customers. What I would like to know however is what do you lads recommend I do in this situation? It's not about the money I'm fighting against, it's more the principal of how this customer is going about it, also is there any disclaimers out there that can protect you in future if this was to come about again?

Any help or advice will be appreciated

Cheers in advance

Has he stated at all what he's not happy with?

I guess if he does leave a bad review then comment underneath saying something along the lines of "that you have tried to resolve the problem and been in contact as soon as he said he wasn't happy but the customer refused to explain what was wrong with job etc! Then at least other customers can see you tried to resolve it!

Then leave a crap review for his B and B ;)

Personally if you know that the work you have done is good then I wouldn't be giving a refund especially for not even knowing why!

Tell him to do one. If he won't let you in to see what the problem is then how can you sort it. As basset said, if he does leave a bad review explain all that below his review.
I always try to let the customer see finished work before they pay in full. That way you know they are happy and dont end up in these annoying situations

Sounds very much like he's trying it on, chances are he doesn't want you back in the property because there's nothing wrong with it, tell him to fcuk off

I had a similar thing before Xmas woman checked over job before payment and was happy with job on day before Xmas eve I get a call saying she ain't happy with a few bits I offer to pop over have a look and put right on Xmas eve of there was a problem I then got I'm not taking responsibility for my work and I should go there right now to put right bare in mind this is 7pm I said I shall come Tomo first thing and go from there she put phone down on me tried ringing back nothing sent a text nothing, turns out on learning from the window fitters she does it all the time gets jobs done and then wants money off or the bad review comment comes out I never gave a penny back and never got a bad review so if they won't allow you to sort it or at least look to see what problem is i would ignore or best way of your that worried next time you go past pull up knock on door and ask what problem is face to face then your see if he choking your chicken or not

He's blatantly trying to pull a fast one.
Professional way to deal with it-
Explain that he must allow you to try and correct any faults before he asks for a refund and if there are no faults then he hasn't a leg to stand on.
I'd ring him say he can't just ask for a refund and tell him you will happily get a independent surveyor to assess the work with the losing party liable for costs.

Proper Bloke way-
Ring the c**t back tell him that you will happily rip his head off and make him kiss your ass with those moist lips of his.
I'd also tell him that if he evens try's to leave a bad review you first get all your friends from the forum to leave a bad review on trip advisor so he knows what it feels like and he that doesn't stop him tell him you will burn his b an b down with him his wife and kids in it.
Job done.
For legal reasons this isn't advice or me telling you what to do and I'm metaphorically speaking! [emoji16][emoji23] where you from and what's the b an b called?

This is all based on that you actually done a good job mind! So don't be telling us fibs!

Where's his b&b let's all write him bad reviews saying I fund pubes in my pillow and vomit under the mattress and had things stolen from rooms and so on :bailando:

Tell him to fook off

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Advice on a customer

I've never heard a story like that before.Just tell him to Fcuk off if he leaves a bad review that you'll shoot him.

Thanks for all your posts guys! There's no fibs here the work is good and he payed me on the final day after checking the work over! A review on trip will definitely be taking place if he decides to review me.

He won't explain why he's unhappy I asked but he just says he's not happy but refuses me to check it out, think there's a lot of fibs going on here.
Anyway I'll await his next phone call in 2 months time [emoji23] by which point the boys will be ready to nuke the place.

He has to give you a chance to rectify the work before a refund. Tell us his b and b name and he'll never get a customer off trip advisor again.

why dont you just turn up at the dump and confront him? say you were just passing and thought you would pop in to see what the problem was. record the conversation on your mobile. ask him to what that threat about fifty per cent off was or a bad review.

in these situations everything needs to be in writing . send a letter recorded delivery saying he is damaging your reputation and you are contacting him to request a snagging list so that you can put things right if needs be. email the same. say if he does not respond within fourteen days you are assuming that he is happy with the work.
