I have roughly 32m2 of an area to cover. Need to put on a butter coat then wet dash with 6mm chips. The mix is 3 stones, 2 sand and 1 cement.
Anyone have an idea how many bags of cement I would need and how much sand or chips

I was thinking of 4 bags of cement for the butter coat at around 5mm thickness. Then 4 bags for the dashing and 15 bags of sand. See how it goes. Just not sure if a 3:2:1 mix will fit on a 1 bag mixer using a normal builders bucket

when we wet dash or rough cast, we set up with 2 mixers, on for butter coat, one for dash. to save time washing out .

for 32m square, i would have 1.75 tonne of sand. 9 cement. 2 lime and a 1.5 tonne of stone. i would put my butter coat on at 10mm.
as you have gone for a 4 to one scratchcoat, was there waterproofe in that mix? i would go for a 5 to one butter coat, the same mix for the dash just add the stone. i would put boards down to reduce waste.

What you mean the same mix for the dash - what mix would you use 3:2:1 ??? or... Also do you think it would be easy enough for one man to do with no labourer

not being funny pal but if your asking all these questions you shouldn't really be tackling it of course you will need someone else its hard graft mate

Haha I think you are being funny. Just trying to get a second opinion. No one seems to be fit to give a straight up ratio for wet dash... Nothing wrong with hard graft, think it could be done easy enough with one man but if you cant there is nothing wrong with that

A few have given you mix ratios?? Yes they may differ but at the end of the day its you that decides what one to go for ,different guys have different mixes and methods.

"No one seems to be fit to give straight up ratio for wet dash"..pmsl:RpS_laugh:

which is rich coming from the person not fit to judge how much material he needs and what mix to do it at:RpS_lol:

when i said the same mix ,in the second mixer i would mix the sand and cement at the same ratio that i had used for the butter coat and add the amount of stone that i needed. i know by the look of the mix what i require.
this is very heavy work, and busy, i would hit this with 2 plasterers and labourer nice little job for a saturaday morning.

ive been busy with other things actually helping organise a funeral and the likes, so why dnt you just go along with your 15 bags of sand all on ya sweeney and get that job that you dnt know how to do finished im sure itll be grand

I've never done any wet dash, although I've seen loads of it and it always seems to last really well. Is it hard work flicking the slurry on?

Its hard work yes, but mixing, laying on butter coat, top coating and flicking on ya own, that will be a good days graft.Hope you aint got to much planned for the next day.

Have you wet dashed before.

Yea loads of times but not in a good few years. I only have a crappy one bag mixer. Going to get a bath tub and pour it into that. Mix it at 3:2:1 see how it goes. I think we used to mix it at 4:2:1 and half of lime.

it is heavy work we dash straight out of a wheelbarrow it does not go on as easy as dry dash.
we usually dash with large stones first then come over it a second time with small stones.
you can dry dash and then come over it with a small stone dash to get the same effect.

This is really goin to feck up cooptazzas head:RpS_lol: you'll never get all that in his mixer .:RpS_lol:

damn. Thanks Fatfarm :RpS_lol:are you sure. I was going to get 2, 1 bags mixers set up cause I have them close. but I also have a 2 bag mixer which prob would be best, just have to get it on the trailer and fek about with it. I might have to go with 10mm chips instead of the 6mm chips to suit the rest of the old house. I have never used the 10mm chips. Prob be no different

this wet dash lark seems canny complex...............thought it was a pea's of p1ss before i read this thread..............:RpS_laugh:
