Anyone Looking to take on a new plasterer in suffolk area co10?

Im looking to take on plastering as a career. I have all my own tools and can travel, i taught myself plastering and plastered my house whilst being in a full time job which im being made redundant in june ish. my plan is to work along side someone one day a week (pref friday but not limited to, can also do weekends) untill i get my redundancy, then full time plasterer. for reference i come from a construction background initially and was a plumbers mate doing bathrooms and kitchens for 5 years before becoming a plumbing production supervisor factory based for the last 10.

I appreciate that mate I do. But ive been with the same misses for nearly 10 years so unless shes getting a cheeky finger in the bum on weekends that i dont know about im pretty sure im safe from the clap! Jokes aside im willing to do a short course for NVQ2 if i can find steady work but i have a mortgage and 2 kids so not getting paid for 3 years isnt really an option. For reference this was the first time i plastered a room and i feel i great understanding on the process. Even had to render mesh with bonding plaster to re point the window.

You have got a family to support and a mortgage to service. You need a regular wage. You are not a plasterer and this will end in disaster.
I do know Acton , I usually stop there for a piss when I am on my way to Long Melford!

Cannot imagine anybody will want someone for just 1 day/week, especially a Friday. If they did it would be as a labourer. You must be at least 30 now, off the tools and match unfit for last 10 years, wanting to jump straight into a physical job, and onto the tools at that.
Suggest you take Malc's advice, get a job, and maybe just try to do small domestics at the weekend, but be prepared for mistakes and costs of making good etc. I'm not knocking your work, but how long did it take and if you costed that at what you need to earn would someone pay that much? Getting faster takes time to learn.

2. Most trades people are poor at best. They lack basic communication skills, terrible organisation skills, minimal business skills, etc. Anyone coming into any trade with half the level of professionalism picked up in a corporate career would absolutely destroy most existing trades people.

I have a much better grasp of mind and body than you can ever imagine, but we're not going there.
So you are basically agreeing with me....continuous practice and getting faster/better over time - which is what I have suggested. But the OP wants only one day a week.
To price a job well takes experience, it's not just a book-keeping exercise, and good plasterers are also organised & good business men - there is a lot of proof of that on this forum alone, but as a newbie on here maybe you haven't seen it.
Whilst somebody might be very fit the change from corporate work to site is harsh, the body has to adapt and nobody, nobody, in their thirties will find that easy. It's a physical job, try to go too fast/too much too soon and the body breaks down.
As an ex-Ultrafit competative athlete and ex-QS & Corporate exec who has made the change, I speak from knowledge and experience. Am I good plaster? No, I'm a patching bodger who knows I could never match or make it on sites, its a sideline issue to my main (stilll physical) line of work. But I like plastering and the Crac on here.
