Thanks guys for all those that replied to my ad on here for me to add your details to my plasterers Bank of contacts. I will be texting you all when work becomes available for first come first served contracts.

I have a contract on a site that needs to be started Monday in Tonbridge, kent. approx 1200 m2 skimming on board work

If you are firstly able to start next week and secondly able to assure me that your plastering is top notch then please give me a call on 07931756836.

NO time wasters or chancers. DONT tell me that you'll turn up and then not bother.

valid and present cscs cards please guys, all appropriate PPE, tools etc too.

I think they were fair and there seemed to be a good amount ready to go. My old man had a chat and they seem like a good bunch of guys. I can't get on this one which is a shame as I'm stuck on a rubbish job elsewhere that has suddenly got a fair bit ready

Do you not think it would give your company name a bad rep,if you,ve agreed to do a job, them pull out after you,ve seen and agreed price?

i always visit a job before i quote. if i was not earning top dollar i would tell the developer that i am going to requote the work. i would not stay there till the death just to earn a developer money.

It's a catch 22 situation, continuity over short term better earnings is a prediciment we are in regularly. Doing 8 houses right now, 510metres each, the rate is better than average but not great. Turning away better paid work every couple of days, but the firm we are working for pays every week and has 5 more houses for us to follow. If we pulled off for better money I've no doubt we would lose the client.

That's a strange attitude Malc I'm surprised at you. What you're saying is, that if you feck up pricing the job you expect to get another go at getting it right?

i would never win a quote for building site,
requoting is a trick i learned from a well known colchester plastering contractor, when you have the job half cocked give their arm a twist.

So your under pricing jobs to win contracts then upping the rate half way through? How's that work then?

Could you not take someone on so you dont have to turn any work away?

Tried a few spreads but they didnt cut the mustard, and a couple of others let me down. Passed a couple of jobs on through the forum which went well. Hoping to take some one full time in a few weeks.

the contractor that i am talking about employed about 50, plasterers, dry liners, tackers, screeders.
once he had got his foot in the door ,on site, every thing was wrong, site was not keeping up to schedule, costing more money as not enough areas available, had not priced for this had not priced for that. he will have to requote and he would have to pull his staff off site unless they can come up with extra money.
this plastering contractor became a millionaire.

So he had his paper work sorted and played the main contractor at their own game and won. Fair play

Does that not drive prices down for everyone else though? As the contractors think these low prices are standard ?

he was never low priced ,it is just that he had a large labour force there was very few other contractors that the builder could turn to.
the other contractors of any size all knew each other so they could tie things up between them.
the plastering contractor that i am talking about even purchased a small builders merchant business so that he could purchase the materials at the cheapest price, and make sure that his deliveries where made the first drop of every day.
