Are things getting worse all over?

80m2 a day thats two hits at 30m2 and one at 20m2. 7 years ago the guy I worked for was paying £3.25 m2 so you are working twice as hard for roughly the same money.
Yes it can be done the for odd week or two, but every day week in week out !

For whom the bell tolls it tolls for YOU

Don't touch site work anymore and haven't for near 2 years.

Price of fuel, h&s, absolute dog **** rates, its a waste of time, then you are fighting to get paid.

Last I got offered were £1400 to skim a 5 bed detached houses 3 floors with double en-suite and utility room. Supply own genny and load out the job from a pallet dumped on the garden, I'm not sure if the d&d needed doing in that price either, I can't remember.

Went in and got talking to the team of spreads and they were f**ked, running around, about 4 spot boards set up lads everywhere, **** everywhere.

Would have took 2 of us, approx 2 weeks possibly a bit more, I couldn't begin to work out how we could make it pay.

Prices now are around £1.80 - £2.40 which is what I get told, 70-80 m2 per day 5 days a week hurts after 3 months

Well at least they let you know that you haven't got the job malc... The past two months I've had nothing but timewasterers.... But you have to speculate to accumulate.

i was only told that when i phone up a few days before the agreed start date to find out if they where up to date with the building program

i was walking along and saw a friend i hadnt seen for years....got talking to him and he said he lost my number, and not long back he needed a bedroom skimmed.....he got a guy from his work to do it, who plasters at the weekend. Charged him £40 a day, and £30 for the materials. He said he took 2 days to do it, £110 quid....

How can we compete when people will do it for £40 a day? It'd cost me more in petrol in my car!

I've been considering some contract work, on sites, £11-£12 an hour, just to fill in between my domestic jobs. Something's got to happen soon, prices are out of control. May start dealing drugs or smuggling.

400 m2 a week is some going, and without a labourer:RpS_scared: 40/50 bags mixed...The contractor makes £2,780 less £160 Mats and the hard working plasterer just £600..
:RpS_laugh:
How did you come to that figure most fims charge 3.50 to 4.00 supply and fix on skim

They don't Gary and don't let them kid you that they do.

we are winning work on largish projects at rates that allows us to pay £3. They are greedy cuntz with to many blokes doing fuckall and with little plastering knowledge making there overheads to high and the only ones to suffer are the guys on the towels.

We are all being mugged of its not worth going to work anymore in 1984 I was averaging £420 a week.

Pricing without seeing any plans? They are dangling a carrot to be in with a chance. That will have to go up in price or they will go under.

They do because ive rung them pretending ive got a job for them to qoute on can i have your supply and fix price thats the figures i got

Yeah I get those type of calls from time to time, do you think I blurt out my prices to a complete stranger over the phone lol.

Those are the prices quoted and i am talking about large companies like bdl and stanmore who have big turnovers what they do is during a job is hit the main contractors for extras stanmores turnover is 92 million a year

So the meterage rate they quoted is just a smoke screen to procure the contract. However I bet they don't pass on the extra costings to the guys doing the work. It fuxks it for the rest of us as we are trying to compete against unrealistic rates. Bunch of dicks who have never touched a trowel in their life dictating our trade. It's these people that are forcing rates down not the hard working spreads( where ever they were born!)

Yeah it is steven but thats how they do it there supervisors go round with camera,s all the time

Been well busy march, april and may then phone jus stopped ringing for 2 weeks so went on site price work for first time. Skim 2 quid m2 dab 2 quid m2 are these prices any good as never been on price? Some weeks I've been earning 700-800 on my own work now I'm busting a gut on price. Bit of a shock ha. Done 2 big rooms a hall and bathroom in 2 days so rekon should be doing 60 m2 a day maybe 70 but it's non stop. These prices any good? An any tips on how to do the same without burning myself out? Lol ta

Then he would need to buy Spray Finish or MP

Used BG spray finish for the first time in ages today. Its very good, they seemed to have listen and increased the set time to be similar to MP. Well done British Gypsum, they even got it to site in 7 days!

I think they are poor rates as im sure you will find out when you get paid. That seems good going in 2 days but the problem is doing it every day every week. I wish I knew how to do it without burning myself out too. I hope you do well on the job buddy but you will have to work hard for it I doubt.

Currier you have to remember the bigger firms have alot more overheads, you're best off in the position you are, go bigger and all you're doings cutting profits unless you've got a big turnover

Iv gone dead in the last 2 weeks, did a smallish rendering job last week and priced a few up.

Priced an internal insulation job up, went up took a look, got all prices together, emailed quote, then pick up a sample board of what insulation I recommended, took it to show her.

Asked her if/when she was interested in starting the work and she just gave me a blank look, so iv drove to her house twice, drove to merchants for her and spent 1-2 hours preparing a quote for her for .......... Absolutely nothing

And Danny if you are reading this, can you drop me an email mate, I need to get some Seo done sharpish and get the ball rolling if your not to busy mate.

Cheers, Chris

Had similar happen to me a few weeks back except i knew the guy I spec'd it and QS'd it and then armed with that he bought the gear and gave the work to someone else saying "but you said you were busy and could not do it for 5 or 6 weeks" he then had the nerve to ask me if i would still do the rendering as the lad doing the internal cannot render ! Told him i have got another job booked in now so don't know when i will be able to do it
