Can't beat a good plank :RpS_thumbsup: going to have a bath then get my planking out of the way, going to add 10 seconds to tonight's plank for maximum relief :RpS_thumbsup:

Just planked 90 seconds ...not easy :RpS_bored: How you getting on @SpankySouthport @markj @Hoddo ?

90 seconds...............................im assuming you did 5 sets of 90 seconds or your a proper faggettii

You have a lot more experience of being face down in an uncomfortable position than I do, ....but I'm catching up :RpS_wink:

i have the fluid missing between my bottom two vetebrae....but my back specialist says no one will operate on back pain....dont want to get into the long winded argument i have with them over it though.....pain killers painkillers and more.....yet my 70 year old father in law, had 2 operations for the exact same problem, within 2 years, when he was 70 and 71? yet at 36...and could have 30 years of work and paying taxes left in me, they wont do ****!
:-(

I tend to do normal plank then side plank either side definitely feels as though it works some different muscles!
Yeah, side planks are also helpful. Have you tried doing a side plank and then move straight into the normal plank and then on to a plank on the other side? This is not one continuous movement. All of these positions are to be held

If you feel up to it you can do several "sets" of planks. You probably wouldn't get several sets of 90 seconds if 90 is your maximum for the first set. What you can do is halve your maximum and just do 3-5 sets at at 45 seconds at each set. There are several back experts that believe that these shorter holds for several sets are more beneficial than one longer hold

Oh, btw. I am not winding anybody up but the best thing that I ever did for my back showed a massive improvement within 3 days and was to do with my diet rather than exercise.
Most of my backache was being caused by a bacteria called Klebsiella but I didn't find this out until several years after my back problem started. The klebsiella was feeding off starchy foods like rice, wheat products, potatoes and even bananas (I used to eat loads of bananas). I cut out all starchy food and within 3 days my back ache had gone. The back ache comes back every now and again but only if I have been doing something that is particularly stressful on the back.
Now when I say "back problem", I'm talking about a lower back that was so stiff that I had to lay in very hot water in the bath every morning before I did anything about getting ready for work. I often had days off work because of the pain. I was also going to the chiro several times per month to get my back clicked. I havn't needed a chiro in years now and I put most of that down to not eating starchy food. It might be worth giving it a try. It only takes a few days to see if it helps

Interesting thread this intrigued and goin to give this a try been having back pains and stiffness for afew months now only minor tho but at 28 it's worrying!

nip it in the bud while you can bud, wish I'd been more aware when I was 28

I didnt notice to be honest bud. I've been planking, doing my physio exercise, watching my diet , maintaining good posture, trying to strengthen my core blah blah blah and yet still me sciatica has come back with a vengeance. I have been in constant pain and am at a loss. pain killers dont seem to have any effect on it at all any more. I bought an inversion table yesterday and had my first go on it. Instant pain relief, the best I have felt for months. hopefully this is going to work, I have tried everything else. Its like having the worst toothache ever but in your arse cheek and then once every hour or so you are treated to mind blowing cramp :RpS_cursing: will keep updated about the inversion table :RpS_thumbsup:

Ollie, just stick a pillow under your back where it naturally arches. Ten minutes every couple of hours :RpS_thumbup:

The best excercise ive found for lower back pain is lying on your back on the floor and sort of doing a backward roll, bringing your legs for 20 seconds putting them back down but keeping your feet 6 inches off the ground so your dong an ab excercise for 20 secs then back to the backward roll and increasing the stretch everytime till your feet are almost touching the floor behind your head( takes a while to get that flexible) but it seems to help me lower back pain.

Binned the memory foam mattress for an airsprung jobby which is a hard mattress and my back seems much better
