Ceiling joists.

Awryt Guys! Goin to do my kitchen ceilin this wknd. Had a we look and its plasterboard but its been artexed over paper. Goin to overboard to be safe. Marked out joists etc but on one wall one of the joists isnt level. For example : theres 7 joists but the 7th one isnt in line with the end of the kitchen ceilin it goes about 4 or 5 inches into the living room... So I dnt have anythin to screw into on that one side where the kitchen meets the livin room. Even if I screwed somethin onto the side of the joist I couldnt get my drill in because of the kitchen wall. Whats best way to do this? Cheers.
 
Ive knocked a hole up between the 6th and 7th m8 but the ceiling joist is about 4 or 5 inches I think into the next room. Which means where the ceiling and kitchen wall meets theres nothin up there to screw into, so it gives me nothin to screw end of plasterboard into...
 
place some no nails on to the back of the new plasterboard and put a support under the plasterboard overnight.

Sound malc! Cheers m8. Goin to sheets it tomorrow. And screw straight over existin.
 
Sounds like the kitchen was isn't supporting then.
Could always make a few holes along the edge, put some 2x1 above the top of the existing and screw through the existing (like when patching holes up) so when you put the new boards up you have something to screw into - that would work.
If using no nails you'd have to scrape back to existing board as the paper could come away.

Cheers for the advice lads. Ive been puttin it off for weeks. Shes been at me every wknd to skim it for her lol.

Oaft! Had a job a few wks back and it was a full room woodchip paper. Customer asked me to price it for her, takin off woodchip and skimming walls. I just looked at her and says " you strip it ill skim it" lol. Horrible stuff.

We knew a joiner who had a woodchip ceiling, he couldn't shift it - even tried a blowtorch.. That stuff was welded on. We skimmed over it as he said he'd take full responsibility if anything went wrong. That was several years ago and it's still there..

A blowtorch haha! Superb. Aw well at least he says hel take full responsibility. If I skimmed over woodchip a think it would give me nightmares lol!

I plastered a builders own house that he'd dabbed over wood chip lol
 
There maybe a few noggins going the opposite way to joists especially if kitchen/living wall is studded?
 
Start with a full sheet from the end with no joist and just put the screws in at an angle, then about two inches away put another row of screws in at the opposite angle it's simple ;)
