Delivered or mixed?

I don't often screed floors (if I can avoid it :RpS_biggrin:) but I have to do a smallish floor of 15 square metres. It's a bit thicker than usual due to some medical equipment, electric wheel chair etc etc running over it. So it'll be 100 mm on celotex on concrete.

Anyway, as I'll be flying solo on this one I can't make my mind up for the choice between having the 1.5 cube delivered, or mixing it as I go.

On the one hand mixing it is a pain, on the other, delivered it'll be tipped in and then I'll have to spread and level it from there which seems like hard work!

Working alone what'd be your preference, mix it as you go, or tipped in a heap and level it from there?
 
ready mix. you get the same mix from start to finish. i would have a retarder added to the mix and a little bit more water then usual. simple job.
 
I quite like to mix my own as the concrete companies near us are not very consistent with screed,too wet!i even had one turn up with the screed in a skip and it was too dry so we had to knock it up ourselves anyway:RpS_cursing:if I could find a more consistent outfit I would use ready mix more often.

I didn't know that was an option, but I like the sound of it.

Set up a couple of bays with battens, get that mix and wait service with a barrow driver and Bob's your Uncle. :RpS_thumbsup:
 
get tarmac pre -mix mate, they do it in jumbo bags if needed to save mess, a bit dearer mind,
sod knocking it up hey its 2015!! saw a builder the other day insisting on chicken mesh??? well he is just a builder i guess (****)

what are the battens for?
 
They'll allow me to work to a level in bays. Same as using screed to form a level, but I can set them up before the screed arrives, then lift them and fill the grooves when I'm done.

The don't wait as such,they mix and bring it in till you're done, lots do it ,concreting or screeding, pumps can be supplied too. Not overly expensive compatibility to buying,labouring costs etc
 
was on a job awhile back and mixamate turned up mixed up one barrow of screed, wheeled it in cleaned up and left, ffs how much must that have cost , some lazy fukers out there
 
I'd go for ready mix makes life that little bit easier! Quite a few smaller company's about do the barrowing for you, gotta put some extra creativity in with the planks through doors and up stairs maybe chuck a see saw section in to get your money's worth.

Just remember not to put pics of the mix on here like we did last time,
the way they zoomed in & analyzed the fcukin screed ffs some people eh :RpS_laugh:

I did a pool floor in yorkshire the other year and wanted SBR in the mix !!! but the silly fookers mixed the screed then added SBR so i had a wet mix !!! bloody hard work, they should of taken out the same amount of water that they put SBR liquid in !!!!!!!!!!! thicko's

Everyone has to have a code to live by, but I can't remember anyone else quoting those two rules. That said, I've never spent any time in Devon before. :RpS_unsure:
