The problem is that it's difficult to compete with those cutting corners when the potential client doesn't understand or really care about the difference between doing the job correctly or to cut corners. You try explaining about correct quantities and placement of board adhesive and most people just glaze over. Luckily not all. Bottom line, it costs more in materials and time in application to do the job properly.
I always work to the standards I’ve been taught, and the only time I change is when there’s an amendment to spec.
Just tell 'em about the increased heating costs & how the sound of the neighbours will carry (or vice versa!) if they don't.

I do hope that the foundations were checked and done correctly. I know of one house where all the steel was left out of the footings.

Trouble is not many can float and set to an agreeable standard it’s all dot and dab now and when the house catches fire it will go up like a tinder box with all these dabs put on Willy nilly.
Yes definitely. Especially of someone else is mixing it .
The last floating that I done in sand and cement, they ordered ready mix with a retarder in the mix. The ready mix co. supplied plastic tubs about 4ft x 2 ft which the fork lift put on the loading bays.
