Not worth it imho. If they do happen to phone up CSCS and check the details your name and rep would get shot to pieces.

The last 3 sites i was on they made the call and found two people out straight away who had left and that a father and son had been assesed and took the test but not payed for the card they had to buy it there and then before they were allowed on the site, it was worth payin coz they would of lost the day and wouldnt of got on the next day so maybe lose the job aswell. that was last year the year before that you could get on with just your number but now its changin you might not even get on with a labourers card to do the plasterin, who in there right mind would let someone with a labourers, painters or roofers card come on and do the plastering. so have you renewed it 2 times? i need to renew mine and resit the test, now thats a con lol

Very true the new ones have micro chips in them and why wouldnt they check them? times are changin boys they are makin it more and more difficult for unqualified workers in the industry and i for one applaud it.

i've been involed in plastering for over twenty years and am now getting back to it after a 3 year break..
i have no qualifacations concerning plastering at all, and so does that make me more unqualified then someone who has done a plastering course and probably got his cscs card thru the gov??
just because you have a cscs card and have an nvq doesn't mean you know what the feck you're doing.
there are even guys on here who have no or little experience of floating, roughing out ,backing coat (or whatever you want to call it) with either lightweight plaster or sand and cement.
the chancers, rough feckers always know to get all the qualifacations for nothing anyhows, (probably while their signing on), so no matter what, its not going to stop bad working practices. its just another money maker for the gov anyway.

exactly,! My old man is in the same boat been doing it for 35 years. On one of the firms we work for there is a lad who has got an nvq2 in plastering so there for is more qualified than my dad. Yet he earns £25 a day as he is still on the books as an apprentice and all he does is green up any walls and load out the jobs with the gear. I feel sorry for him really but its up to him to sort his self out. Anyway in the eyes of the gov and any sites yes he is more qualified than someone who has been doing it for 35 years and maybe in the future he will get on site over us. fckd or what!

Thing is it is so easy to pass everyone will end up getting a qualification so at the end of the day we will be in the same boat ie skilled tradesmen and unskilled tradesmen the only difference we would have all been scammed for £650 + for a f**k**g course by the gov.

listen if you can plaster and pass the test take it quick before 010 the expense must be a cost for your buissness so et it done and move on

I had a guy come out to me 3or 4 weeks ago to discuss me have a plastering apprentise from the local college.whilst disgussing this we talked about qualifications and i told him i have no plastering qualifications what so ever.
he told me im elligable for a free nvq and signed me up there and then.
2 weeks later another guy from the college came to visit me to dicuss more in detail about the apprentise.....i asked him about these free nvqs i signed up to and he told me there a waiting list as long as your arm and the only way to get one it to pay £850 for it.
told him to forget it ive lasted this long without an nvq and see no reason why i should pay for one now.

This assessor fella told my old man that the funding has stopped already? Even for people with no previous qualifications. Anyone know for a fact if he is talking s**t?

listen guys bury your head in the sand but it will and is gonna affect you, blame the government, blame the fact you dont need quals or blame the apprentice on site who is gettin qualified but the door will be closed to you. Nobodies saying your a better spread with the quals but your more QUALIFIED get it? If youve been in the game 20 years or 30 years not havin a dig but why have you only just become aware of a card thats been around for a long time? probably the same attitude as "i wont need it i can plaster" but hey it wont mean shite if the doors closed and your right they were being and probably are being given out willy nilly but thats because like you say a lot of you guys have been at it a long time, people arent stupid they will click on about nvq 11 being easy to get so nvq 111 or advanced craft will be the bench mark for a real qualified spread :)

listen to this one i am a full qualified spread 31 years got city & guilds & advanced craft city & guilds i contacted the powers to be cos i coudnt find my paperwork the citb said there records dont go back that for i thought you cheeky bas-tards am not that frenching old so i got my cscs card by stating i was a insulation installer no nvq was required but i need to sort this problem out once and for all my mate is a nvq asseser for a company he does the tickets for jcb 360 etc and they dont get charged a penny its all governmant funded they are a national company i am going to see him about the plastering side i will post there number on here if i get the right answers why pay if its free cos if theres is 100% funded surely all the rest must be keep our fingers crossed lads

it was citb and the company i served my time with has bin swallowd up 3 times by a bigger oufit each time so they dont even exist now

You can always ask about the experienced worker route as well. They discuss certain aspects pf plastering and ask you to do a practical test. 2 days and you can have your cert.

BLUE CARD - EXPERIENCED WORKER
Top

This card is available to everyone with on the job experience (normally at least one year in the last three), but missed the industry accreditation opportunity.

To qualify for a card you need to:

* Check to see if your trade is covered by CSCS.
* Pass the health and safety test

The card is valid for one year and is non-renewable.

The card is issued on a temporary basis, while a NVQ or SVQ is being achieved. It is expected to be replaced by a skilled five year card on achievement of NVQ or SVQ Level 2 or higher.

An Experienced Worker Card can not be replaced by a Construction Site Operative or a Basic Skills Green Card.

My uncle has his city and guilds from his apprenticeship butdoesnt have identures or apprenticeship completion certificate the company has he served his time with went bankrupt in the last recession and cscs wont recognise his quals ??? ??? he has the experienced worker card butthat runs out the end of the year

Update: Contacted the following:
OSAT CENTRE- SOUTH KENT COLLEGE, Jemmet Road Campus, ASHFORD
Name: Terry Cole
Phone: 01233 655622

(This is the guy that said that all funding has stopped and it will cost £1200 to take the coarse.) These colleges are not offering any one day course to get the qualification. Each coarse is gained thru a succession of on-site visits by the assessor.

SkyZoo where did you get your info from?

Also contacted:
EAST SUSSEX DRY LINING & PLASTERING ACADEMY, Mullany Business Park, Deanland Road, Golden Cross, Hailsham, BN27 3RP

Name: Roger Pitchfork
Phone: 01689 841 900 / 07736 329535
Fax: 01689 847 117

Now this guy stated that there is still funding but the company that you work for has to pay for it and then claim it back. Now I don't quite understand how a self employed spread working for several different companies through out the year is supposed to go about this?

It seems as if no one knows exactly what is going on? Or these reps are just scamming c**ts telling everyone different facts so they can test to see who they can get the most money from?

Don't know it's starting to do my head in now. >:(f**k**g s**t poxy country.

Clint

if you register with citb you ie your company claim it back check with citb also train to gain give them a bell and tell them youve got no other nvqs or anything

Anyone know where I can get an onsite assessment for my NVQ in Scotland, didnt bother with college cos it's a waste of time as I only work for a small company. Can't see anything about the test for Scotland, nightmare! Help??
