Whatever they do they need to start teaching it better coz all this sh1te work knocking about will be the death of the insulated render industry. I dont know how long it can go on for but were repairing stuff thats failing after a couple of years and therw is loads of it. Species will turn their backs on ewi if it keeps generating problems on projects

there is a lot more to doing a decent job with ewi then people think. but the big firms will let anyone have a go who will start for the low price. on tower blocks in london every week a gang of plasterers would turn up and have a go after a few days when they have not met their wages they will sod off and you will be asked if you would put it right and complete the area they have started.

I had two plasterers turn up to my site 6 months ago.
Took them two days to bead up front of a house, and all of them had to be redone

It would make sense to the profiteers, I can Dry line but not as quick as a "dry liner" who has adapted to produce more for a lower rate cornered by greedy contractors. Same ol shite from one of the greedyest nations on the planet! Rant over.

yes i do. they will try to kill all of the trades.but i am not to bothered as i am coming to the end of my working life and i have seen the very best years. which young tradesmen will never see.

there is an active effort to keep the install cost of ewi and contractor tender prices as low as possible by any means possible without doubt.

the budget should fit the spec of the system but in reality they trim the spec to fit their budget.

I have see 3 jobs alone this month that were done by big contactors that are all subject to claiming on warranty because they are failing but upon inspection the install has not been done to the manufacturers exact spec - the bigger buildings when they go wrong simply send the contactor under when they call it in for failure due to install.

I am working on one this week that will eventually cost millions to put right, its crazy all for the cost of small detail being missed

What are they not doing in order to fail? Typical examples?

prob.......no stress pads (internal/external), not enough over lap on mesh, not enough bedding adhesive, not enough fixings, no dog legs around window and openings, application in wrong weather conditions, anyone else want to add to this list?

same as the above and the exclusion of compression seal tape and apu bead is causing ingress especially around badly fitted overcills. most manufacturers report that it will be shown on training and is a must but the associations are pulling them from the spec as far as i can tell, I am still trying to find out but see that STO vid that was posted on the forum a while back? - they swear by this as gospel.

non backwrapping where openings such as vents etc occur are just rendered on the surface but no mesh into the return of the hole and back around onto the brick. fire breaks are getting meshed over in the mesh pass but should have a coat and a mesh first - this can lead to cracking and ingress where the wool act like a sponge.
Dry fixing of phenolic allowing curling which can lead to cracking at joints.
Starter tracks not mitred properly at corners leaving gaps.
badly stored material on site.
not using enough pins
not doing two coats of the base on systems that spec it. lallalalalallalla the beat goes onnnn lalalala....

I wouldnt say so, more a case of rates being low and lads doing what they gotta to make a wage and up the chain firms pricing so low that they win the tender.

tender prices are easy a third down from what they were in 2005 from what i can tell and even lower in some cases thats alot of money to lose as a contractor so they gotta squeezze all and sundry to make work happen.

my stance is always price for the exact spec and if they cant afford that then its on theirs and some other contractors toes....

yeah I know plenty of lads doing what they gotta, its hard not to sometimes, I'm working for £2 per square metre less than I was 5 years ago!
