Flattening first coat

I for once want to see the finish of any top top plasterer like him. That's the second video of him I am watching and if you think this is bad , find the one he teaches how to do thin coat render- that's shocking. You never put my trowel down through the whole set, let alone loading the hawk. Laying on with plastic is the biggest f**k up to start with , the skirting line is f**k*d to. It's a pain only watching him.

I don’t like people disrespecting RWF I love his enthusiasm and the soundtracks to his videos are decent.

I’ve watched loads of his videos and find them fascinating for some reason I can’t explain, never understood why he flattens a wall and then messes it all up with a sponge when he could be trowelling up.

I got that mate, it's catching when you watch him, but when you actually look into it it's a different story? What you see on the video is smooth movements etc, but look close at the wall , I can see the bumps left by the plastic, skirting line overload etc etc. I can't say that's the easy way as he says. He has a lot to sort out afterwards and how much will depend how far the skim it's gone and if he has time to fix it.

Best spreads work slow. But meticulously.

I worked with a sponge floater who was actually really decent and his work was top notch but instead of watching what he was doing I stuck my nose up at it and thought I was better than him. I wish now I paid attention to see what he was doing. And another sponge floater who wasn’t as good tried to sponge and finish with spat. He was crap.

To master the sponge you need to be spot on with two coat and understand the whole process. Two coats , ove board, it's a waste of time and the finish is not better. I use refina superflex3 to lay on now, as I found the straight edges don't leave as many lines as the marshal. Lays on and flattens at the same time . I can't stand banana trowels, let alone bend the wrong way. Does my head before I even start skimming. Have done one coat, no sponge for some time, but for the long run and consistent finish sponge is what you need. If you can do one coat to acceptable finish, sponge will bring it to excellent. It's timing and tehnic and serves me perfect now. Wish only I started earlier.

I am slow as f**k, and that's the truth. I just refuse to be rushed anymore.
Fast is fine,but accuracy is final . Learn to be slow in a hurry!

If the walls are not good first coat is mix with a little bonding then fresh coat
If not bad first coat then second straight on top both coats tight then speed skim

I run over the 1st coat with a spat and usually mix fresh stuff for the 2nd coat .
I see RWF on youtube mixes 3 bags in a tub and uses the same tub for first and second coat , is the stuff not gone too stiff to spread by the time it comes around to the 2nd coat ? Maybe I'm slow ......

When u finish first coat knock the gear that's left in tub back up with tiny bit of water
. Second coat really tight. Set done in hour and half.

Exactly that brother. One coat sponging is the way forward. Especially on flat board. I'm sure I get a better finish that way, rather than 2 coating and not sponging!
