im assuming that bg make money by the number of bags they sell to a customer, not to a shop/merchant?? if so, surely its in their interest to make a bag that doesnt break. how many £5 bags do you see on a daily basis split in half and unusable?

second thought is for @Runswithscissors why do knauf not make any attempt to rival bg in the plaster market. a lot of people are set in their ways and wont change, but there are a lot of people that would buy it if it was sitting next to the bag of multi finish, and hopefully the bags of mp75!!

The market decides what the dists, merchants and shops stock..... if their customers (your spreads) ask for a product (or goes elsewhere to get it instead) then they will stock / change ...... but, the stockists will not stock material with a shelf life if no one buys it....

MP Finish (which can be hand applied) costs more per bag, but you get more m2 out of the bag (you will have to work it out yourself). It also has different timings to what you mainly use, but they are all on the instructions on the bag - it also drys white (better for decoration)...... Those who use it properly, love it

you want to try it - ask for it or search it out (or call Knauf and ask for local stockists or the local sales contact 01795424499).

yeah its kinda a catch 22. coz when i wanted knauf gear i had to order a pallet and then use it. kinda tricky sometimes when i was doing a lot of outside work also. but if it was in a merchant id always pick it up, especially mp75.

yeah iv used mp finish a fair few times, again it makes sense to stock it in some place. maybe just one a town and accept there may be a loss ocasionally. its the only way to get into a market. slap in massive letters on the bag its cheaper per meter than multi, which it is, or something.

its like a guy with no work just waiting for a phone to ring when nobody has ever heard of him

I must say, i have not Payed more than £2 a bag for a few weeks now, Just get em on the trolley in B&Q, there all marked up cheap, slide em into a rubble bag and use em. Every cloud has a silver linning.

CCF usually stock mp finish

I do think Knauf need to push it to plasterers. The road show was aimed at the business men who want even think of using it if they have no willing Labour to use it

Anyone used their new browning yet?

what is new about it ? carlite / thistle browning was always considered to soft, and got damaged to easy that is why hardwall replaced browning.
the old thistle browning and fibered browning that you mixed with sand and set quite hard, but it was not lightweight, therefore not popular.

what is the advantage in using knauf finish? my gangs just want to earn there money and go home. they do not want slow sets like thistle universal.

We put more on and earn more money on a average day with mp then any bg plaster bar spray finish which you can't get unless you order well in advance. Thats by hand or machine. Lays on nicer as well

Also cost less to :)

we used mp finish the other week im not sure about the cost of it as it was supplied for us but we was able to get alot of meterage on in one day compared to multi, and it did trowel up a treat

So new that Wickes have stopped selling it because it goes out of date & they have to give it away!

Browning is easy to knock up & use ... but it is crap! It has no substance or bollox to it whatsoever.
There are a billion thermalite blocks out there liberated from their browning jacket with just a "donk donk donk" if you tap the wall. The only thing browning sticks too is your feet - I remember walking half a mile to the shop one wet morning & following my own footsteps all the way back.

Was using browning the other day as well, didn't think we'd have enough so was mixing it with dry-wall adhesive. We nice to use and set rock hard.

Another tip is when you mix sand & cement a bit wet, chuck a handful of Lafarge bonding compound in .... but not too much or it'll be drier than a nuns c**t! Strange because it looks like cornflour & has the same effect!

Due to the cost & availability of browning & hardwall, I often mix thistle bonding with plastering sand.
It's heavy but spreads & rules off well, floats up a treat, goes off quick, doesn't crack, skims well, no air bubbles or crazing ..... and saves you a few bob! :RpS_thumbup:

Guy who works for me always throws a couple of handfulls of thistle bonding into sand and cement when we're doing patches, says it sets it much faster.

hi everyone, thanks as always for the feedback and sorry for the frustration with the slow moving process.

In response to the issues raised, we’ve set up a dedicated team to review our packaging and they are currently exploring manufacturing and production processes. Once this is complete, they will then be going to site to speak to customers directly and get further feedback.

As the team continues with the review, we’ll share further updates with you, but in the meantime, please let us know your thoughts and experiences with us via the following email address: [email protected]

..... And?

Spoke to BG today and did the bag survey.................They seemed receptive, but actions speak louder than words...............anyone else done it??

I've posted before on this topic asking if this is regional thing. Just elaborate on that; is packing done at different branches. Bags we buy from b&q rip all the time, doing a job right now which is about 4000 metres and using about 60 bags a week delivered from jewsons and not had one rip.

Bloke i spoke to today said i was the only person he spoke to that gets the plaster from Jewsons, If we get a pallet the bags are fine. Its when the warehouse lads are ripping the bags off the pallet to load the van up that they rip, If you remind them to twist the bags before lifting them then they are sound. Put if you put the bags down too hard they split. Its better bags and education of handling them that will solve this conundrum.............................:RpS_thumbsup:

I picked some up from the merchants the other day & I couldn't stop 'em ripping however I tried.
The fact is they are not as strong as the competition, the corners are not sealed & I don't see why I should get covered in the stuff every time I grab a few bags in the evening in my decent clothes.

British Gypsum / Saint Gobshite or whatever they call themselves nowadays don't give a monkeys toss about the end user of their products, they have had long enough to sort this simple request out.

I for one hope they get what they deserve & get swallowed up by the keener emerging alternatives.

They came to visit me on site a few weeks back and I can honestly say that they know there is a problem and will be putting measures in place in the not to distant future to fix it. Seemed very interested in what I thought and asked me what new products I would like to see. Quick setting plaster for small gauges and a strong plaster with fibres in for bad walls were my ideas, wonder what my royalties will be?? Lol
