I think if you need to prevent soot from bleeding through, seal the surface with a stain blocker or use a PVA solution before plastering. This will help stop the soot from affecting the skim.I’ve been asked to plaster the inside of an old coal fire place and have heard soot can bleed through skim, How do I prevent this ?
On a fireplace ?I would cover the area that has soot contamination with building felt. fit EML this may have to have plug and screw fixings. Then float and set the area.
The OP said that the soot was on the inside of the fire place. On a fireplace ?
