I'll be honest.
I'm feckin fed up of sh1te like this when trying to work.

I neeeeed to get back on site but don't know how!!

I'm fed up working around architraves and skirts.
I'm fed up having to tidy up spotless.
I'm fed up of PVA'ing everything.
I'M FED UP.
I want to go back on site where I started, I'll take a wage drop to get my foot in. I don't care... but maybe not to the £12 an hour I keep seeing advertised....
Give me price work any day.
A mate of mine just managed to get a start after what seems like years of trying to get on.
He's getting £800 to dab out AND skim an apartment... taking the pi55 yes, but I know I could make that work.
BUT
It seems to be a closed shop, with siteworkers keeping a close guard making sure no one new gets on.
How would I go about it?

Couldn't work in that room. Christ mate get them to empty it!

I'm just about ok with working around a sofa in a big livingroom.

Get the customer to clear room and if the room was clear maybe you wouldn't be fed up?

Customers doing this more and more lately... and I'm not really in a position to walk after having a quiet December...
Its not just that tho. Its everything. Sheeting up, pva'ing etc. etc.
Uuuugghh...

I am mainly domestic..I do sympathies with ya..i just walk in a nice way though and re arrange days ..it's probably the worst thing on domestic but some people just don't know.If I walked today on that job would of said I be back Saturday and they would of understood it had to be cleared then..loose a Saturday but gain a Tuesday.
Also this is why I use the unifinish no pva it can take up to much time.
But having said all that at the minute I got a whole plasterboarded downstairs that I am skimming fresh boards ,can trash the floor and was thinking how much of difference it has been to the daily crap of domestic.

Try this.

I would have turned around... or at least tried to make it clear to the customer before I got there that it needed to be clear....

That being said, all the health and safety on site does my head in...

Try this.

Does drive you mad sometimes domestic

All tiled or marble floors here but often have to move furniture n shoite either to other rooms or away in van as they are getting all new when works complete. I then seal the floors with decorators paper and tape up the skirting , job done don't have to worry .
I price in the extra work in the quote or if the plans change I charge accordingly , time is money and why should you work for nothing .

Hate to say it mate but it boils down to needing to grow a pair I'm afraid...tell them straight that your price is based on clear rooms....

IMHO working in them conditions is unproffesiona on your part....

Sorry mate only saying how I see it not meaning to offend!

Just run in the house, go mental with your trowel slashing everything that will sort it out.

But yeah just to add I hate domestics to @CeeVee....just working at a house with 6 kids and 2 staffys....just laughed yo myself early whilst sponging down the woodwork on a door that's got more punch holes through it than I night club bog wall....

Like foookin shameless frank Gallagher house!!!.... the way some people live is unreal...poor nippers have got no chance!

Sheeting up ,pva and moving stuff is all in my prices .If someone wants to pay me to move stuff or take more time working around there clutter its up to them . You have to set your stall from the start a give them all the options. But i know what you meen CeeVee.

I take the sarky approach... when they say they can't get the sofa out I say " oh the builders must have built around it then " or the one that winds me up " we have put the sofa in the middle of the room"..... like that makes it less of a hindrance....... One day I would love to skim a ceiling and just leave a circle in the middle of the room above the sofa .....lol

alot of sites are tape joint at the min.

the big site work companies i used to work for dont have many spreads on at the min.

6 months down the line it will change to skim again.

where bouts are you

I like to say only leave in the room things you dont mind damaged. And if i dont like the attitude too much i ask would they clear the room for a carpet fitter?
Oh and ceevee the number 11 bus will take you there! ;)

Here's me singing the joys of empty house yesterday on new boards got there today and spent 1 and half hours clearing builder crap out the room so I could even get started ..site or domestic it's all the same where ever you are

I was skimming a house not that long ago, following a sparky who was re wiring and fitting downlights etc etc. He always left his tools in the room I was to be skimming that day. After about the third room I got fed up moving his stuff and skimmed the ceiling dropping as much stuff as I could without it looking obvious all over his tools. Next room wasn't a tool to be seen :)

I was late getting up and started today as well .at first I was peed off then I thought sod it I put everything in one room I did yesterday and prepped the other 4 rooms and had a big sweep up ..got a ceiling on this afternoon but am now looking forward to the next few days ,it's ready to roll ,even set the kettle up and left a couple of heaters on so it's warm in morning.

No you don't mate unless you want to work for £2.20 dabbing between £2 and £2.75 skimming,£2.50 floating and have the arse mithered out of you for health and safety.

He must of knocked one of them shelves over and is buried under a load of crap as there is no reply!

Wondering if he went back to have it out with the customer and one thing led to another.

Or did he blow the house up?

I reckon the customer is a MILF and he's moved in and doing the plastering for 'free'.

:bailando:
You guys crack me up.... its just like being at fookin work!!
I'm not saying the moneys crap ... I price in for it... but im just fed up with it all, I'm a spread not a removal bloke.

I'm sure writing in the quote the amount to clear working space and making that a nice bonus would ensure a clear space 9/10 .

A quick phone call the night before also encourages them to pull their lazy fingers out

Ceevee - put in your quote that you charge £10 per hour per man to move any furniture or strip any wallpaper.

Regarding the other works tidying, sheeting up etc get a lad in
