Is this acceptable plastering.

Hi all,

Just had my kitchen hard wall and plastered. I hacked off all the old sand and cement and plaster and went back to brick. Grinded off all the snots with a grinding cup to get the walls as smooth as possible. I know brickwork isn't straight or level or plumb, so wasn't expecting a perfect job. Pva all the walls. But this is what I got handed back to me after the job was completed. Is this acceptable plastering or was I just expecting too much...? I personally think it's rough. I have 20 more photos of issues but can only upload 10

Ah the African finish, very popular, we see loads of it on here. Some of it is so out there it should be in a modern art museum.

Unfortunately that is not going to be a positive conversation, your property has been vandalised. You've gone beyond what is reasonable as far as plastering is concerned and are about to enter the conflict stage.
You're well within your grounds to say the work is unacceptable, in fact no actual plastering has taken place. Putting plaster on a wall isn't plastering it's everything that comes after that is plastering.
I know it's only January but you're looking like definite contender for worst attempt at plastering 2024.

I'm f**k**g fed up with chancers stealing legitimate tradesmen's work

Absolutely no way was that carried out by a plasterer with forty years experience and a good reputation. Not a chance.

Don't get me wrong, some of the sidelight you were using to show up his work would show up the irregularities in a new pane of glass, but that plastering was not good.

I appreciate your comment, I just used the light to highlight most of it, as there are no lights in the kitchen atm. I was just trying to give you an overall feel for the entire job, ignore the little imperfections here and there, the plaster splatter, the trowel marks, maybe just focus on some of the edges and patches. Just wanted a second opinion as I thought it wasn't a great job.
 
How much did he charge you all in,as hardwall is float and set you rarely get that these days so it’s more expensive due to the skill of it,if your walls were bad he could of easily dubbed them out before applying hard wall

He charged me £1140 for 4x3 kitchen, plaster board ceiling, and hardwall and plaster walls. He did use a bit of bonding to dub out a few bits but not loads as I used a grinder and level to even out the brickwork.

very bad work
 
On top of everything else the walls shouldn't have been PVA'd before he arrived either.
Maybe a bit of water to reduce suction off the dry bricks, but I'd want some suction to give a chemical key if nothing else.

The brickwork was very dusty when I finished prepping the surface and did a very diluted covering of PVA and water, more to remove the dust. There was also a section of breeze block that I wanted to cover with some PVA to stop the plaster from cracking. The hardwall did actually start cracking the next day as it was drying on the breeze block
