light positioning

Advice please. just got a light for plastering do i want it in the back middle (though this makes a big shadow giant on the wall), back corner trying to light whole room, or front corner trying to shine it across the face of the wall to show imperfections? Last option seems to catch my eye all the time. Do I need 2 lights or does this reduce shadow? What do the pros do?

i was told 3 lights, one face on and the others from each side. now these days if it that dark i just go home!

Agree it’s a nightmare as the nights draw in I like the pure white daylight bulbs and plenty of them
Sometimes you gotta just say well tried my best it is what it is
