I use the sponge regularly, it really comes into its own if you stumble across somewhere where you have to fill out a bit with the skim, leave it to tighten up a bit more than usual, sponge it then flatten. Won't be moving under the trowel and won't be a fat mark in sight. Flawless.

this is similar to what m on about. the way he sponges i mean.

too much water for me but it seems to work for him. plus i think hes only one coating but looks fine to me

I used to think that too Bobby, (only started doing it last few years) but it takes literally 3 or 4 mins to drag it over a gauge of upto 30m, but the joy of flattening and the end result is orgasmic.
As I say though, a lot of the time I don't bother, but if there is any slight depth of skim for whatever reason, then the whole wall gets done, and it's flawless.

Lol

Get with the program lads. It's the future. It's trending right now. Everyone does it

I hope your on the windup @Jurek ... Id honestly love to hear @BritishGypsum 's thoughts on the use of a sponge on Multi .... For me plasterers who use a sponge must s**t at laying on neat or flattening .... especially when a s*p*r*lex / plazi can finish a wall with 2 passes if timed right so basically theres no time saved .....

the use of the sponge looks just like a new take on the old method of cross graining a wall.

Crap for scaffolding though
yeh, wouldnt have thought a trowel would have much use for a scaff.... nope, cant think of a single use... ive got a full titanium spanner.. way more expensive than any trowel in production... lovely... maybe I could post a pic of my English with it... now theres a theme...

forget all these trowels.. get a titanium spanner, not as robust for smacking people with.. but they still nip...

What's so funny Bobby?

I've been plastering everyday of my working life for the past 27 years, from house bashing to some absolute prestige work, & never had any complaints.

I served my time with my dad, who always told me the day you think you know everything is the day you'll go backwards.

You obviously haven't even tried it.
A quick search of your posts though & I shouldn't be surprised at your response, you really do come across as a condescending know it all.
Good Luck.

What would Gypsum say?

Probably the same as when I was using a plastic trowel made from a bucket 20 years ago, they'd say you were barmy using a sponge, but does it matter?
As I say, I don't use it all the time, but don't knock it 'till you've tried it!
It's not for all but it's a strange world where we would all do the same [emoji1]

Things change hey.. Im getting one of those Sanz plastic trowels in Spain in a month, their supposed to be good, using it for the micro, but one of the lads final trowels with his and reckons their the dogs..

Im only having a laugh, pretty much like anything I post on here ..... pity some take it so serious as tbh i couldn't care less if you trowel your wall up with your stretched ball sack !!

Must be mad. Stretched foreskin is the way forward! You're obviously not a pro if you don't know that!!!!!
