hi chaps ,could any of you chaps tell me the difference between the nela s*p*r*lex and the refina s*p*r*lex ,thinking of buying 1 ,but don't no which ,refina is cheaper ,anyone used both ,and tell me the best one ,quaility ect ,thanks

Think this is the only thing me & Clemo disagree on lol.
I couldn't get on with the Refina and sold it after a few days. I love the nela.
I'd advise you to try both

And do a search on here

Simple one is by in large in stock the other is always out of stock.

Because of the above I've never used the Nela but can tell you the other is a thing of beauty ( for a plasterer anyway )

Its kind of like asking a degenerate wino which is the most superior beverage Meths or lighter fluid.
Im a meths man myself(y).

The fundamental differences are as follows:

Refina s*p*r*lex has a 5" wide blade and a blade thickness of 0.4mm

The NeLa s*p*r*lex has a 4.3" wide blade with a 0.3mm blade thickness.

The NeLa also has a longer support bracket to the Refina meaning less FLEX at the toe and tip of the trowel. Something I believe they (Refina) are changing along with the width on their new style.

It's been asked several times on here, would be advisable doing a search to see the various reviews.

IMO, I am NeLa UK though, the NeLa is my preferred choice. I had the option to sell the the other version but chose NeLa for various reasons

Are these better than the marshellstowns?

Refina all day long for me as the nela for reasons @Plasterers1StopShop explained in my opinion makes it worse and too flimsy plus you can put on with the refina which is not recommended with the nela but personal choice. I hear some lads say the refina handle being too big to grip on?? I feel sorry for your other halves if that's the case if your used to holding small things lol but everybody is different and no right or wrong answer plus I do know massive improvements have been made on the build quality of the nela. But I stick with what works for me. For example I love the eze spat but think the refina isnt in the same league !? Again all personal choice try everything then you know what's going to work for you?

Spot on.
I also think whichever you choose first might have a slight advantage as you get used to it as well as timings etc.

Cheers fella the handle thing wasn't a pop at you either lol. A few lads hate refina and vice versa over this and that etc. I like whatever works for me that's it and only say my opinion and an explanation why. Hope your well bud and keeping busy (y)

when do you use your refina??? I got one a couple of weeks ago, and started using it after the first flatten down of second coat with my MT, but found it was dragging quite bad and needed a lot of water, dunno if cause was new, seems a bit better now after a few weeks.

It does seem finish the wall a bit quicker, but when you run your hands over the walls after not as smooth would be with my MT...

If you use a traditional stainless steel trowel on the first flatten no wonder it went wrong. That's not a dig at you mate if your new to this you don't know. I first coat with a Nela premium then end with a refina s*p*r*lex and trowel up with it. The trick if you want to call it that is you can get on your set much quicker using very little water rather than chucking it on like some spreads with huge splash brushes etc

Cheers marshy, flat out at work. [emoji106]
Wasn't the handle with me, it was more just the feel or balance of it, but like I said, I wasn't used to it.
I can flatten with the MT and finish with Nela no problem btw [emoji16]
Hope you spreading all over lancs!!

i have the premier dura flex 13 inch. with a wood handle . only a few of these in uk. they have no where near as much flex as the refina but they do keep their shape. the more common duraflex a the gold backs.

I just seen the duraflex last week at toolfair, its rigid as anything, other than that its looks nice, was 32 quid.
I never had a feel of the refina, I got some nela, but they prone damage and can fall apart for some reason which been rectified a few times
Buy all of them then get rid the ones u don't like

Sorry to high jack this post peeps

nela or refina s*p*r*lex
@s.p.t plastering this was finished with an eze spat only apart from angles obviously they need to be troweled in. Just to prove a point :tonto:

i only use it to lay on, i finish with a refina s*p*r*lex. my duraflex trowel is the version with a long tang, both the premier and the goldback have long and short tang versions. i would guess that the short tang would have more flex.

at £32 it would be the gold back version, the short tang is a couple of pound less then the long tang.

Yes it was the gold one malc.
I was shocked really that my trowels going for the 30 odd quid mark, looking at them at merchants they usually sell it for 45-60 quid

Might be worth you having a go with the new nela,I hav the eze and that blade is more flexible than the sf,the new one feels more robust for some reason.

Cool..thanks

Buy one of each. Iv got both the refina sf + the nela sf + like them both, the nela bit stiffer + the refina bit wider + flexible but both good trowels. Also just ordered the refina premium for laying on with, was gona try the nela premium but wasnt in stock.

I have! a mate has one but I prefer the refina. As for the eze spat that is a different animal for ceilings especially! ! Brilliant

Still waiting on delivery of my mark2 s*p*r*lex's ordered a couple a few weeks ago not sure if they actually have them in yet or there out of stock.
