to be fair the price data is gathered from live projects within the industry from big companies so they are not 100 miles off tender figures for new build usually on big jobs worth over 100k but there will be costs from the job hidden to the analyst
In my experience find price books to be a little over where the rates should be around 10 to 15 percent. thats no surprise actually as 10 to 20 % is considered a normal margin for most industries where as drylining and plastering firms have recently been known to go in at between 0 and 5 percent profit - that will have ended now tho and good riddence to those dark days.
the problem here is there are many people on the forum at different levels in the chain
big Contractors with offices and staff and employ loads of subbies.
small contractors ~(mainly private work but good turn over and business)
subbies - unfortunately work for nuts rates because they have no choice most of the time dictated to by the guy at the top of the list, also the quickest and will do well if they pull off a few jobs like this as "foreigners "
I know lads getting torn on site for a couple of quid would snap the guys hand off for an extra £ per m but usually wont price this type of job as it means coming of the bread and butter day to day and after a month where do they turn for work as the bridges with the gut at the top of that list will be well burnt. oh we will fit it in at weekwnds springs to mind
the guy prob needs the middle contractor who has overheads and wages to cover plus insurances before any profit can be made. probably does not get the material for the same rate as the guy at the top of the list either go to B&Q these days and check the prices its scary - now surely he will mark the job mats up so any discount he gets will bring the mts back to the price of said B&Q (no incentive anymore - why should they risk outlay and the years of built relation with a supplier to pass the mats on at cost ? ? ? )
1 option get labour only quotes too and supply the gear.
I cant get plastering stuff as cheap as Tony has quoted there but then he wont be able to get render product as cheap as me either and so on.
Another problem here is the job is smallish (1/2 houses) and like anything with measured works you start talking discounts when your well in the to 1000s of metres certainly from a suppliers point of view anyway.
food for thought anyway
the overuling factor here is that plastering is a very diverse industry and every plasterer will have different structure and prices. finding the right size contractor is the key. it ok quoting labour rates that a subby gets on a huge building site but remember tht subby does not have big accounts for supply, in fact he prob has none, he has no hasstle of the phone ringing or puttinhg tools down to take delivery or organise anything - he rolls in at 7 spreads away in his rooms all day and then goes home wanting wage. thats not the guy who goes over plans pricing up from spec.
there, more fat to chew
I must say this thread has entertained me from a short distance
