Hi.I used mine only for a few minute, mostly doing outside work now, I do not like the handle, it looks horrible and cheap, bit like an 1850s type of a tool, I would like to try it more, seems to leave lines when the plaster is soft, I expect it needs breaking in, if I saw one in a shop with the wooden handle I would not buy it but that aside I have not had the chance to properly test it, any advice on how to break it in? spent all my life with Marshalltown trowels..

Hi mate,

Danny may be able to help you out here as he has a better understanding of them. From what I have been told and read the advantage of the plastic trowels is they don't need breaking in. The other bonus point in the lack of lines they leave. This though is all dependant on your timing.

I have to admit ,I am clueless about them, so that softens my criticism .. Timing is the bane of my life he he ,,

jonnny get a bit of wet and dry run it round the outside and take the corners off a little bit with it and it will be fine but i agree with the leaving lines part but i think thats to do with the handle which in my opinion makes the trowel awkward to move about as you might need it to.
as it goes i know someone else who it buying up materials from a plastics compnay who used to supply other trowels and it makeing them his own and re selling them i.e new lighter handle ss screws re-inforced around the screw hole blades come already chamfered corners rounded and has a rigid plastic sleeve to protect it all with. only problem is all this costs £20

Thanks JRp, at what stage should it be used, close to last few trowels?

i only use for last trowel but when i get one to try i try it out in different stages but i have found that last trowel is the only one really but it does leave a good finish

Is it worth buying a trowel purely for the last dry trowel??.........why not just use your steel trowel??

I thought that too till I used it for a final, no drag and left a very smooth finish. Even my mate who thought they would be crap wants one now after using it.

exactly what i thought and the blokes i work with thought till they tried it out (my current one, not this one)

Can i buy a few of these or can someone just send me them out for nothing as that seems to be the norm on here :RpS_biggrin:

ahhh the soft packing, giant bubble wrap i managed to sneak up on the missus sleeping and pop one right near her, took ages to calm her down after that she went bloody loopy at me

Oh, and a little pic.. When I get a bit of free wifi I'll upload a nice shiny ceiling pic :RpS_thumbup:

BTW Guys I'm off to Some places in Europe at the end of the month to discuss new tools and improvements to existing ones

If there is anything you guys are really interested in or improvements you can suggest towards the tools I will see what I can do :-)
An adjustable hop up reasonably priced would sell well

I've been using it, not cleaned the top (should give it a scrape), bottom is clean though. Fat's on my handboard/hawk from scraping my trowel - useful for the odd little nick. Treat my Tyzack with care so don't scrape it much - can't get them ones anymore :-(
Should give it a bit of a clean I guess.. Handboard/hawk is like a throwing star, need another one at some point.

Excuses are like arseholes. Everyone's got one. Clean your trowel up boyo. Ill post a pic of mine tomorrow so you can all take the piss

i tried cleaning my trowel a couple of times but the edge is so thin and sharp now that no matter how gently i scrape it the edges end up full of nicks and it takes ages to get them out again.
how you doin with sorting the handle out ryan??

Jase soak in in water over the weekend. If its bad itll take a few weekends but once its clean its easy to keep clean.

i tried this for a weekend but i might have to try it over a few, its not got lumps and shite over it just a glaze but its nails hard

Spoke with the manufacturer today so just waiting on a response from him. I have also tried a few different handles. The problem is the base of the handle needs to be the same size for support and strength purposes. So now we are trying to find a smaller handle with the same base size if that makes sense!?!?!
