What in plastering? I don't remember being asked any questions, other than "have you ever considered becoming a lecturer". Seemed a strange question to ask someone who'd hated every part of his education.

give us an example of these tricky plastering questions.
How long have you been plastering for now? I can remember a couple years ago that you got excited about starting site work.

For NVQ Level 3 you have to show that you can do complex internal and external work. How the hell do most people that get this qualification prove this?

The lad is probably talking about the question books you have to fill out, fuuck all on plastering it’s more about health and safety and working around others, Shiite like that

Yeah one was how do you tie your boot laces. Couldn't quite f*cking grasp it.I said mind numbing not tricky.

That was the issue when I did my apprenticeship and level 3.
I recall it was barrel ceilings, circular columns etc, with a bit of fibrous and external work. Fortunately my old firm did it all so I could get the evidence, plus you can do your columns in a bay at college, you could make your collars out of casting plaster for your columns.

It's video evidence now. Some stuff like columns or "complex" arches are hard to come by sometimes tho

not really answered the question ceevee, give an example or two of the tricky plastering questions, not being funny just curious

Yep, it was the late 1990s when I did mine. Times change, but I recall not getting evidence on site of an archway with fibrous detail on site, and we did it at college to get the evidence. Fair play going into the teaching, I couldn't do it, the box ticking and young lads with attitutude would grind me down.

Most lads have got nvq. And most of them haven't got a clue how to plaster! The trade is dying slowly.
I still think you need to be qualified in what ever trade you do, qualified by means of a proper apprenticeship completed.

if a person is not qualified in the trade that they are working. all they are doing is stealing money from those who are.
I spent a few years learning from one of the best and I’m still going strong 32 years later.Fully registered and tax compliant. And I’d still make a show of most of these qualified lads. You’re judged on the work u do not some piece of paper that says u can do it.

No..investing in yourself always pays off with dividends...sometimes in unpredictable ways....mite get you that teaching job in your later years as you interview against a better spread who disent have it. ? Hope you pass ok
Cheers bud hope so

Just stuff like this:

1.4 State why and when health and safety control equipment, identified by the principles of protection, should be used relating to types, purpose and limitations of each type, the work situation, occupational use, and the general work environment, in relation to:
  • collective protective measures
  • personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • respiratory protective equipment (RPE)
  • local exhaust ventilation (LEV).

Or this:

3.6 State the organisational policies and procedures for health, safety, and welfare, in relation to:
  • dealing with accidents and emergencies associated with the work and environment
  • methods of receiving or sourcing information
  • reporting
  • stopping work
  • evacuation
  • fire risks and safe exit procedures
  • consultation and feedback.
Just vile boring common sense questions that could be explained in a few words but you have to write paragraph after paragraph and there's LITERALLY HUNDREDS of them....

This year completed my nvq 2 mate, luckily had lock down to sit and look at the book for a month solid

I have met so many utterly useless tradesmen that have completed an apprenticeship. Definitely no guarantee of knowledge and capability.
Yes to a certain point,
But people say why spreads are treated at the bottom of the pile etc, plumbers, joiners, sparks etc in the main all get qualified where as spreads mainly don't. I'm not saying it's a guarantee of quality, but it gives you a sound foundation to work from.
