Most I knew did not do well at school and was illiterate.
Thick....not tick, you thick....It does annoy me though when people think that if you're not very bright you should go into trades. How often do you come up against something weird and have to problem solve? You can't to that if you're tick like!
Very nice view, I don't think. Lots of spreads on a£1000 a week. My nephew just started a job 220 a day plus bonus plus free van and phone ,one little thing, he is a plumber though...You should just be happy with you total household income per week. Most don't earn that a month and struggle. I'd say you have a nice home and lifestyle so be grateful
Very true, I have only met a few good spreads in the last ten yrs, I have had a few who would not plaster in my presence and others that I wished hadn't and I am no king myself but am good enough and try to do as good a job as I can, I only ever see faults in work ,hate those who are so proud all the time if their work, luckily I have earned plenty and am earning a decent amount still, but a lots down to luck and knowing clients many years,Having worked alongside cards in spreads I can't say I've meet any that would be worth more than £400 in this present climate with tools and van supplied. Not saying you're one of them.
As for the average spread being worth £1000 a week, what a load of crap.
Most spreads are of average skill at best with there being so much poor quality worked being turned out (often by spreads that think they're the b*ll***s) it's no wonder the trade is often looked down on.
Just think about some of the questions asked and some of the answers given on here at times and you'll get an idea of the sort of people that pass themselves off as plasterers.
Others that do good work but think turning out a few walls and a ceiling a day is hard graft are delusional.
Now those that turn out high end work in decent quantities should and often do earn well even in tough times.
There are many intelligent, well educated and hard working people in other sectors that don't earn a £1000 a week so get a grip.
Been a plasterer will always make people assume you are dumb, lots are, you can use it to your advantage, no point trying to appear clever, just don't appear dumb..It does annoy me though when people think that if you're not very bright you should go into trades. How often do you come up against something weird and have to problem solve? You can't to that if you're tick like!
If you are on the books, with a van that is a good wage pal.your firm would have to charge you out for double that to cover costs.

And I have to pay 40 quid a day for someone to look after my little girl when I do go work now.
I'll never knock this trade , it's given me a fantastic living and lifestyle, yes I've grafted for it ( well I use too), I'm afraid to say if your not happy with what your earning you know what you have to do.
I'm a plastering contractor ,that's what I do ,that's what I've always done,I didn't get my qualifications on a 6week coarse ,so I've to throw the child minder a few quid ,sure what about it ,the show still goes on ,I work hard for everything I have ,I'm not a stroker, and I pay my taxes ,it's just a pity there's always someone with their hand out ,but I've created the monster and now he has to be fed .the show must go on.

I think its funny when people talk to me like im thick cos I decided to go into plastering... I wasn't forced and I have a masters degree to do other things ... I enjoy plastering .. yes its more graft than 99 % of jobs and very little appreciate the skill you need but I im happy with it ... I don't earn 800 a week but not that much less on a good week ... if I wanted to go sit in an office I can easily but plastering is a very high skill and where as your customers might not appreciate it never get down about it ... your doing a job that 99 % of other cant or should I say there those who think they can but the good always show through ... think people are missing the point that we do something that not very many can do to an immaculate standard
WTF. What's with all the Queen lyrics? Shaky's been singing them on another thread...:what:

its not just that we pull in 1200£ together as a couple which is a lot and we are lucky in that respect , ,fellas its the fact that WE plasterers are poorly paid as compared to other jobs which can be non skilled just think that we are not duly rewarded for the job we do !! thats all i"l get my coat ! stuy
Thick....not tick, you thick....
Well all i've got to say is scaramoosh, scaramoosh, will you do the fandango?!
3 plasterers price a job, they all come from the same area and are of equal high standards.
The first has 5 kids from 2 marriages and a mortgage with credit debt also.
The second spread is a widower has one grown up child and no mortgage or debt.
The third is very young and lives at home with his parents and his biggest expense is the car but has a secret drug habit but needs to save for his own place.
All 3 prices would differ for the same job for different reasons but the customer knows nothing of their backgrounds.
My point is that number 1 may need £1200 a week to live on, number 2 £200-£600 and number 3 £250 -£2000!
The materials will all cost the same but the labour will be very different.
No you don't.
