Grit or neat pva with some Sand for a key. Let dry fully. Stick with p board adisive.

Use timber cut pieces to size to fit wedge them in the steels then fix roof batten onto the timbers then board the faces and underside of the steel then

That sounds like the way a boy would co it.
I just fill the flange of the RSJ in with plasterboard off cuts then board it.
