Good reply mate.. i agree.. I would perhaps try one, but then again my refina is great, so would probably go for the leather handle version of that to try.. thing is the nela may be great, but i know the refina is... wouldnt rule out trying one.. since ive been on hereive been looking at trowels, before wouldnt dream of it, tyzack all the way, lol..

the only thing with the review for the nela trowel is no one is goin to be able to comment on how the trowel wears in and the last ability of it, that will take time and we dont have time so its all goin to be based upon speculation of the initial useage, but the s*p*r*lex ,IFF its anything like the refina you will be able to get out the box and finish with it straight away you can judge a s*p*r*lex easier than you can a straight trowel simply because the s*p*r*lex is mustard out of the box and you are expectig a certin amount of play in the blade, so with these new superflexes you will be able to just hold the trowel bend the blade in your hand and you will instantly know how much flex you are goin to get and the responsivness it should give you.
with the straight trowel you can look at the weight balance strength and comfort of the trowel and yes you can finish with them out the box but a normal trowel IMO will get better with time as it wears in, time that like i said we dont have.
the s*p*r*lex reviews i feel will be a more accurate review as they are ment to be an off the bat trowel:RpS_thumbup:

yeh, when I got the 16'' refina, i used it straight out the box and it was great ( took my old trowel as a back up tho..lol ) they have to hand out new trowels for people to review as no one would buy a brand they never heard of... if it wasnt german, I would have zero interest in it, bit daft nela dont have a website to view... that puts me off a bit..

Exactly my though bud..

We can give a second review on longevity in a could if months I suppose..

if they feel solid, and feel balanced, I would say they will be ok over a time, just the cork handle I feel would start breaking down, whats the handle and trowel feel like? ok straight from the box ?

The cork handle isn't quite what you imagine it to be ie nothing like the cork out of a wine bottle it's very hard you can't indent it with pressure or your nail, it gives much better grip

thanks mate.. maybe try one.. how much are they ?? and non of that shite about '' competitive '' blah blah, just get the price up..lol.. decent price i would give one a try,

i was quite supprised about the cork, i tell you wat it reminds me of, that resin bonded agg stuff you can get thats what its like , they have made a handle out of cork then dipped it in resin, just as an experiment today i soaked the handle in water and used the trowel and there was very little to no slip in my hand it just felt nice and tight, where as my refina, ox, mt and kraft trowels if the handle gets wet or as happened to me last summer, you get a flash set and end up sweating your cu nt off trying to catch up with it the trowel was just slipping around all over the place, the longevity of it..............who knows only time will tell but initially im giving it 5 thumbs up (years of inbreeding)

Good review mate.. Im having one with the cork handle... hate this forum, never bought as many trowels ...lol

just spoke with Ryan, getting a 16'' ( trowel that is..lol ) he said mine will be custom made with the odd bit of gold plating on it.. cus im special..lol

didnt want to get everyone jealous mate..lol.. might even get a s*p*r*lex, see what all this gayness is about.. yeh, good speaking Ryan.. cheers..

Craig.

Some fishing rods have a small area of reconstituted cork at the very end of their handles and it's very very hard wearing, probably a tough as wood. I reckon it'll be nice as a trowel handle.

picked mine up today. cork handle wasn't what I expected. seems it might be ok. doing a bit of floating and skimming monday so will give it a play. will be better if everyone does another review in 6 months time once they're worn in

The cork handle i got with my nela trowel off ryan is comfy and nice to hold , and is not what i was expecting , seems like it will be very hard wearing to. Seems like a great trowel so far and to be honest off the shelf is better than marshalltown

Ive got a fishing rod with cork handle must be 50 years old and not a mark on it so cork is quite durable. That said, you should see the state of the handle on my mt! worn away! Not sure the cork could take as much punishment but nice and warm on the hand in winter.

I really like the cork handle, I tried both for a couple of days and I preferred the cork. Ive put my marshall town away and kept this as my laying on trowel (I finish with a s*p*r*lex) Its very comfortable and has a good feel to it. Feels like a quality tool :RpS_thumbsup:
