Plastering temperature

Hi guys , just wondering if every one else is still laying on when it's 2-4 degrees outside ?? Got some sand and cement site work ready for finish coat. Temperature is low for the remainder of dry days before it turns piss poor again ? Just wanted to know what's safe to work to ? Thanks
 
Il have to have a go then see what happens.just checking it's safe to still go over the green scratch coat for the final stucco finish , scratched the panel Wednesday so it's still fresh even to rub with your hand , was hoping to finish it tomorrow ??
 
As long as sand is covered and frost free and no ice on scratch /block work away. Cement and skim going off is a chemical reaction one of the characteristics of all chemical reactions is they create heat. Below freezing is a different matter as the water in the mix freeze before the chemical reaction gets to start. Plastering over icey block is obviously a big no.

While all the above answers are correct, I don't do any outside work between November and March (but that's cos I'm a miserable c**t who hates winter)
 
on our ewi externals the spec is that the temp must be 2 deg and rising to apply the material. the thermostat must be fixed to a wooden post, not metal, away from the buildings and not in a wind tunnel

Same here, plus two, and this time of year don't lay render on after lunch cos you'll be there till fecking midnight waiting for it to dry enough to rub up and then people wonder why the wall looks shite when the first spring sun shines on it.......hey Ho

if we want to finish sand and cement render quickly, we have the material stiff with no feb mix it is hard to apply but you can float up straight away.

Lost count mate, the old bones don't like cold damp winters, keep trying to get the wife to quit her job and feck off to find the sun. I gave up site work years ago leave that to the young ones to bash out.
 
This time of year a small bit of lime in the scratch coat can speed things up a bit also, but like mentioned above ,March only a few weeks away.

If hand apying use lime and Feb in the scratch,this will make the topcoat pull in
I'm spraying weber OCR in the next few weeks so I'm thinking of spraying in the afternoon ready for next day finish,like you would with mono.

March can b cold to so say a nother 2 and a half months left and then u have got April showers .so say 3months and a bitof s**t weather left .I like to cheer people up lol

They say in my village some time in the early 60s the quarry closed From 14 of January for 3months because of frost and snow so we have got a long way to go yet to the :asadito:

the winter of 1963, 90% of building workers got laid off we were classed as casual labour.

I did for a while yrs ago but enjoy the sunshine too much ,some beautiful places up in the highlands though .
 
Never had a problem using rapid set in cold temps, just a half measure. So top coat being 4.5 sand 0.5 ordinary cement 0.5 rapid and 1 lime . Usually top with a 5:1:1 but in colder temps 4.5:1:1 onto a 4:1 scratch
