Lol, the bloke who taught me done my mum and dads house when I was a nipper... I put straight edge on walls and they perfect not a bead used round windows, and reveals spot on..done in sand and cement...unfortunately, when I got with him , he just dabbed reveals then, then float ...I deffo not up to the ol boy standard, but good enuf...

Different times. I do a lot of bathrooms and kitchens so walls need to be flat and square corners but elsewhere you’d never notice.

If you're going to allow anyone from that firm to set foot in your house again, then I suggest you at least get yourself one of these, so you can show them how appalling the work is, without any room for them to argue the toss about it. Holding a feather edge up to the wall, right in front of them should really embarrass them into admitting it's substandard work (unless they are hardened cowboys, accustomed to pissing in customers' pockets and insisting it's just raining).

Just curious, Do you mean the prep that I did?

When they came to assess the job, I was very clear about what I had done, and I told them if they needed to do anything else to include that.

We had to rip off most of the original plaster to replace a wooden box where the stairs intersects the room and get some bricks replaced by the window. and a lot of the other plaster came off when the electrician's chased the walls.

Hi i did PVA the brickwork with a good quality PVA at a ratio of 3:1. This was done back in November, mainly just to make the room less dusty while we did other things. When they came out to quote for the job i was clear with what i had done and that they should do what was necessary to prep.
 
So a couple of lads turned up this morning to put it right. Sent them away and told them to get the boss who originally did the work or his business partner to come round as was originally agreed.

30min later got a call saying they would be round either tomorrow or Wednesday. Seamed reasonable on the phone and even said they might have to chop it off and start again. As many of you have suggested getting them to try and fix it will likely not end well and i agree, but i do have to give them a chance.

I thought so. Personally I wouldn't have been interested in the job once you'd mentioned that you'd pva'd the walls.
That isn't the reason for the shoddy work though.

The two lads who turned up did not inspire confidence. Before I let them do anything I wanted to get the one who did the work to see the issues so we are on the same page and they know where I stand and what I expect.

I suspect that it will be the other owner of the company redoing the job.

Best of luck with it all. There’s far too many of these ghosts about, they should all be held accountable and fined heavily for their incompetent and shoddy workmanship!

Trouble is these Muppets actually suppress the prices for the decent tradesmen.
I've been saying for years that there should be something you need to even be allowed to go out pricing jobs. Obviously never happen because nobody comes to physical harm from poor plastering.

if they can't do the job right first time they can't do the job at all.
float & set is a pretty straight forward job....IF you know what you are doing and these chancers clearly don't have a clue. Trust me it's not a hard job for a competent spread.
why let these cowboys back into your home to fk it up again?
best thing you can do is to get your money back and get someone in who can actually do the job.
do some research ask around friends and family see if you can get a good one word of mouth avoid these rip off trade sites they're open to abuse as you have now clearly found out.
if you can't get one recommended to you word of mouth and are left with no choice but to look to the internet, perhaps have a look in your area for a buy with confidence scheme where trades are personally vetted by Trading Standards.
take my advice pal get your money back and fk these chancers right off.

Your right and i would prefer to do that but my understanding is that i need to offer them a chance to put it right or i have no recourse to get my money back.

Honestly i didn't know sites like check a trade could be so bad wont be making that mistake again. Unfortunately i don't know anyone local to give a recommendation, Thanks for the suggestion about the buy with confidence scheme i didn't know about that.

wow well let's just hope they turn down your offer to re-do it and give you your cash back and admit that they fked up and are out of their depth.
Maybe someone on here will put their name forward to do it for you, there's some good lads and lasses on here but beware there's some fkin clowns on here as well..........good luck with it all.

One of them could be a member on here.

Hardwall doesn’t require the walls to be pva’d before hand. Apart from hacking off and clearing the room, best leave it at that for future rooms.
