The asbestos rates in artex has decreased over the years to zero now, therefore beware of the older properties or work done in the seventies /eighties. minimal risk is still a risk. Thats why pva and bonding over is recommended then skimming, not scraping ..

my uncle also worked there as an apprentice and him and the other lads used to have snow ball fights with the stuff, he 67 now and seems ok but you just don't know, i just hope if they were exposed as much as they were then the bit we have had is not enough to do real dammage but who knows 20-30 years time we should find out. luck of the draw now just got to try your best to avoid it from now on, and not just in artex it was the wonder stuff back then they put it in F*****g everything
Mine worked at BREL carriage works for 27 years and has known quite a few die from pneumoconiosis/asbestosis. One just lately who was on the asbestos advisory board. If you think Artex is bad enough just think of all those old Pullman rail cars with the compartments. The air system was full of sprayed asbestos.
Lets face it, in 20 odd years time or whenever someone might find that plasterdust from mixing skim is a carconogenic :rolleyes)
I would've thought overboarding wouldn't kick up much dust if you screw the boards up?

My dad told me about the snowball fights, blokes wrapping themselves up in it and falling asleep and one old bloke who used to add it to his baccy so his pipe lasted longer.. Scary stuff. They were all just told to wear masks for the dust and nothing else was said..

there was a firm called kitsons, they would come on site to insulate the boiler house. they would mix asbestos up into a useable material, then mould the mix onto the pipe work in the boiler house with their hands. i wonder how many of them are still about
