Hi all. We are contracting in a new plasterer on a water damage repair job. I am not a plasterer but have contracted a few before. Basically we asked this plasterer to cut out and replace the existing water damaged dot and dabbed plasterboards then skim the walls/ceilings so they were ready for decorating. This is what we got when I popped round this evening to take a look at the work done.

The plasterer has said that it needs to be sanded down prior to decorating. To my mind this is going to be a very obvious repair once everything is done. Am I right or wrong? Never seen wall repairs done in this way before.

Any advice would be gratefully received before we speak properly tomorrow. Many thanks!

Think it says it all if he says it needs sanding down..!!!

I spent over 6 uears doing insurance repair work..

Best way ( in my opionion ) is to remove all damaged plasterboard.. re dot bringing it flush with original surface. . Tape joints n full skim to areas!!!!

The only best option if you are having it painted as you still may see the repair..

Hope this helps

Very amateurish repair and looks like whoever did it wasn't willing to reskim full areas.
Could this have something to do with how much the insurance company was willing to pay?
In my experience with insurance companies they want the work doing for peanuts, pay peanuts get monkeys! Simple.

Hi. To be honest the leak was on a bad plastic fitting on a job my company did sadly. We are paying her for the repair but told her to quote her price to do the job. Would have paid anything sensible as just wanted it done right to be honest. Customer has MS and I was gutted that this happened. First time in 6 years of trading and couldn't have happened to a nicer person. I am really nervous about getting this plasterer back in to skim the whole wall but I have to offer them a chance to do the work properly rather than just not paying.

A repair/ patch is just that, never the same as a full skim, you get what you pay for, we can all do seamless repairs if needed, it's not easy to say from the pics, the are pics of patches.

Tis a full wall re-skim we asked for. It is all sorted now, she thought we wanted a patch skim but we didn't ask for that!

he has carried your instruction to repair the walls.
a scruffy job! he has not sponged the excess plaster off finished walls, the door lining has not been cleaned off. i doubt if the finish in anything special if it needs sanding.
