Sand and cement over steel beam?

Hi folks
Ive got a two storey extension to sand and cement render.
One corner of the first floor is built on steel beams that are cantilevered.
My question is will I be able to fix a knauf aqua panel exterior to the steel to give me a surface to render to if it was meshed and SBR slurried for a key?
Or would sticking some concrete block into the web of the steel with some gorilla glue or CT1 adhesive work better?
Customer is adamant on sand and cement to keep cost down, my only other option would be to clad the steel in something else i.e. plastic or timber which wouldn't look great.

As soon as I heard the term" to keep costs down" I'd already be off.

They’re a young family needing extra room for a disabled child they haven’t got a bottomless pit of money. Any spare money they have would be better spent on memories with the child not on a plasterer who wants to make a fortune!
People are too quick to judge without knowing the story!

Has anybody got any constructive advise please?

What I do is cut some two ×fours a bit tight bang them in to the steel weebing fix some ply to that them you cam mesh to that but you could block it up with bricks and mortar to last one I done builder put timber in and fixed cement board lots of ways to do it

Only wanting to do it right and asking for advice. There seems to be a lot of people on here with the same unhelpful attitude as you there’s no need for it!

if you have to ask a basic question like you have then you have no business to carry out the work.

Your the customer posing on here as a tradesman to see if your job is being done properly aren’t you.
 
Your best option and cheap enough is to fill as tide as possible the beam with eps , expanding foam , eml overlapping the edges or just the top one. Use any thin coat adhesive or spatter coat first and proceed as usual.
 
Would the steel not need fire protection?

Double boarded etc?

Hi the solution your looking for is to render board over steel and apply a high polymer base coat with mesh ! Then go over that as you need !

Yeah but it'll be you that gets the blame when the 'cheap option' goes tits up.
IMHO you should be working to a specification from the architect. Simples.

Ive asked the architect, he said he doesn't know and can't advise.
They just seem to draw pictures these days!

I’m looking for similar advice and getting frustrated as it seems no one actually knows. Don’t know why people have to be smart arses when all you want is some advice. I know I will get the job done successfully, I just didn’t want to make it more difficult than it needs to be. Hope the job went well for you and if you have any tips I would be grateful, cheers.

Going back before the days off the modern renders came on the market this would have timber noggins knocked in and then plywood over, damp proof membrane over the plywood then expanded metal lathing.

I have seen the web filled in with thermalites then metal lathed over.
 
Architect clearly a w**k*r - Check with Building Control and confirm it in writing to protect yourself. Essexandy is right. There are a lot of solutions but you need a safe one not a cheap one, fire is the big problem otherwise your building side will not so gently tip your handicapped person and family over and/or land on them.
