All you're giving me are bias and deluded opinions, go onto any college website and see for yourself. You need no qualifications to begin a course in plastering but you do need to have qualifications to join a plumbing course.
Seriously just go and see for yourself it's not difficult. You want to talk about rates of pay? That's fine go onto Indeed or any other job site and look up the jobs in question. You'll see that electricians and plumbers get paid more by companies than what plasterers do (it's a fact)
Don't be so ignorant, do a little search and you'll soon see I'm right

Going by that logic the guy who cleans my car should earn more than the guy who makes it or the guy who repairs it because the guy who cleans it makes it look nice and shinny
Should a car cleaner earn more than a mechanic? Guess so in your opinion.
Having running water and working electricity means more to most people than having a smooth wall.

I don't work for £90 all the time, only when I'm working with people I know or helping out. I've not problem taking home £90 cash for a days graft.
I understand that most here are from a different era and are a bit out of touch with the way colleges and apprenticeships work these days. They seem to be a bit clueless but I suppose being self employed for a number of years will do that to you.
I'm not judging and I don't take anything personally but I can easily back up what I've stated in my comments and they don't seem to be able to do the same.

I do understand the op and I know what the rest of the guys are saying. But none of you have been on the other site . At least that's what am getting from reading the posts. Gamo is on the right path , but still not there were most of the guys are at the moment, at the same time most of you haven't been in the situation he is at the moment and before you start let me tell you is not like it used to be, now is different at least in london. In the early years ther was minimum wage, now we have maximum wage. The only way you can brake through is to work on price. @ 3m2 you will earn the money most of you are shouting about.good standard room is 60-70m2. @4m2 you will be ready at 14:00. So here you go, but don't think even for a minute it will be easy. The standard and expectations are very high.If you can't deliver you won't get paid. The experiance spreads are on this, gamo is trying to climb the ladder one step at the time and don't see what's the problem. In a few years time he won't be the same. Site work at the moment here in London is between £120-150. That's the max.You want more money - get price work. Very few are earning more than this . That's across the border for all trades. Private jobs are different and I don't see the point to be mentioned and compared to site work.What is the difference between the time when you started and now when you are established? We all like to tell how great we are, but sometime we forgot how we started. £90 is enough to live in london and if you are determinate to succeed you shouldn't be worried about it.

By relevance of area that's more than he is banging on about now.

By his token I have been ripping people off for the last 20 years? I must be a very lucky man to have met so many fools......
He doesn't realise what he is saying, £13 an hour with a van, holiday pay sick pay, diesel, insurance, tax, all sorted.
Add to the fact a self employed person has to take into account loss of days, ensuring future work, accountants etc etc.
Now if the lad with the van is getting 104 a day how much do you think his boss charges Gamo??

If you were any good you would be out on new work on price earning twice what you're on now, or at least giving it a go.

I live in Watford and I don't work in the centre of London. Minimum wage here is £6.70 per hour so I'm earning well above that and like I said before, I don't have a family and my rent isn't all that high (for the area)
Thank you for a sensible post! I get that most of you have been in the job a long time and are very proud of what you do. Maybe in 20 years I'll be here telling somebody they're undercharging and that they're "not a real plasterer" haha
Don't know how we went from talking about qualifications to pricing jobs? I also don't know why you're all so concerned with what I earn. I don't care how much you lot all pocket in a week and it's not my business.
I'm surprised by the immaturity of some of you (who claim to have 20 years experience) but I guess you've got by this long with your narrow minds so why change now.

So you admit you have to get better and quicker so that you earn more?
Well that's a start, this forum could be an absolute minefield of information for someone in your position, however your know it all attitude might hinder your progress on the forum, and if it replicates in your everyday work I'm guessing it has hindered that already.

You have came on here asking how to get qualifications in what you say you do, that's the problem straight away, you were never taught right. Firstly you don't have to be qualified to do electrics or plumbing just competent (look it up as you keep stating). Does the plumbers boss earn more than his employees? Exactly. You know them builders who you have been working for who are blowing smoke up your arse and giving you £80 a day, telling you that's the most you can earn? They are lying because they are making double what you are, you get it? Even when you get your level 2 you will still only know what you know, because you never really earnt it. You missed out on a lot of valuable information which you will come on here looking for but unfortunately I doubt your gonna get xx

Who's experience do you trust? Your 4 years or their lifetime??
Tell me this, sites near you will be paying £4 a metre for skimming (very easy/simple work) how much can good plasters do to a high standard in your opinion??
