Anyone had real problems with them?
I’m getting used to mine I’m two coat sponging looks lovely but lots on you tube are saying flexis and spats are crap

Kirk and the G** ginger one

Kirk can't get on with the spats and rules.

Gets told off by Dad for using flexis.

Flexes are fine if your disciplined with timings, I go carbon 90% and ss flex for final.
In warm temps - it can be carbon all the way.

As for ruling, speedskims/spat/plazirule they take a fair bit of arm swinging out of the day. If those planks are not utilising them more fool them.

Who knows - off camera they probably will be.

Love my 600mm s*p*r*lex...I'd also sponge on site but find it weakens the plaster so on domestic work my process is MT/s*p*r*lex/MT/FLEX/MT/PLASI/FLEX (over 2 coats)

Speed skims are sh*t they bring the moisture to the surface and get loads of air bubbles...might be alright on site on board and sponging.

Love the sponge X

For someone who's been doing this a long time you don't half ask some newbie style b*ll***s questions Dave.

That’s what skimmings like :rebotando:
I want to use a spat from sponge to the end where it gets a wet cross trowel and a polish, one spat to take the sponge cross trowel with a spat wet trowel and polish
Seems to be working but get paranoid that’s all

The thing is before all these modern gadgets came out it was just a fuking skimming trowel and one to float with . Fuk me it's a simple process of the trade . Skimming is skimming. You'd end up being flexi off your fuking head with spats and xskims everywhere. FUK THAT

That's it . At the end of the day plastering is hard graft and these trowels do make it easier but it's still got to be put on and finished unfortunately

When I was working in the Netherlands with the self finishing plaster . They would spray the plaster on the ceilings and walls and run a spatular or as they call it a blade over the areas. The most popular size is 600mm these would be fitted to a batton to give you extra hight. Brush the internals and move on to the next area.

You was only there as a tour guide you old spunk pot . When I was doing dpc jobs as a lad in the back streets of Salford. We had to shovel dogshit and used Johnny's out of the way before we could set up the belle mixer . Beat that me old pal . Ha ha xx

Paradise
Spatulas

I got them when they were first out, when they were called plazirule.

I also carry the spats, nice for when it's firmed up too much for a plastic rule, spats are also nice on polymer renders.

do you know if the new xskim plastic spats are the same sort of rigity as the old style bob

I think the same plastic.

But with age and use, they tend to firm up a tad, and it actually improves them.

The edge wears over as they break in, they don't sharpen, and they definitely get nicer.

Cool thanks bobski

As if you would know ! :inocente:
Well I know just enough my mate, and a lot of that is by my own experimenting over the years and hanging round you lot.

You have to keep open minded with techniques and tools though. If someone has been getting good results for years with their setup, then great and why change or use anything different, but if a certain gizmo makes life easier, you can bet your bottom dollar that had it been available years earlier then it would probably have become the norm
