Good s**t, you just dont know how to use it.

theres nothing to know. i have and can use a s*p*r*lex spat, a trowel and a straightedge. there isnt some secret knack to using it. it just does nothing that i cant already do. all it does is poorly flatten

I thought you only used it a couple of times then someone pinched it?

yeah they did. it doesnt take that long to know if something is any good or not tho. it does nothing it says it does. it doesnt flatten neat enough. plastering into dry angles are a pain and ul need to use a trowel anyway. it would only possibly, and it is a small possiblitly, that it would save time on a massive wall. but u would still go back over it with your trowel. so it defeats the point of it

Have you used it on wallcrete yet nick?
Kebab was flying through it with the speedskim last week. :-0

Oh ok then maybe Beddy can give you a hand it's only low level so he won't need his reinforced hop ups :RpS_biggrin:

Niick, as Beddy told us , your can be a bit of dweeb, they do do a smaller size, think Nisus may have a pic of me trying it out, but its really for less feable people.

On a serious note do the advertising standards people cover adverts on the internet? Because if they do then the Speedskim people could be in bother if reported as their product certainly isn't revolutionary as people have been using similar home made jobs for at least thirty years, anything that is used just for the flattening in stage definitely isn't going to increase productivity by 100% or 200% and as for leaving a better finish and straighter walls well what utter bollix.

Got mine on wednesday, been using for 3 days on an extention over plasterboard,

Personally feel they are pretty good, after putting on faster and rougher a whip over with one of these leaves a first coat flatter with less lines and holes than a neat first coat, second coat goes on easier, i dont use on second coat as i always put 2nd on nearly flawlessly anyway, this extension is 2 rooms both with vaulted ceilings, the wide angle from ceiling to window wall is far easier to get straight when ruling the line with one of these

Knocks about 15 minutes a gauge off, plus the hits are easier, finished walls look better

Just my 2 pence, Glad i got one

So you're saying your finish wasn't good enough before you used this rule?

Quick tip dont use these on CPI then try to use on finish. Scratchy.

ill post the speedskim cpi later today

Gonna have to get another one just for finish now :RpS_laugh:

am i missing a trick with these? cos im of the same opinion as nick, i bought one tried it, got the hump with it, threw it in back of truck.

I know plenty of lads who own stilts but only tried them once coz they couldnt or didnt want to get on with them does that mean there shite?

These are by no means s**t, im gutted mine is dead for skimming gonna order a new one, one for backing work and render one for skimming.

I seriously dont understand how some people pick up a tool and think its the bollox and other think its shite, surely we dont plaster that differently???

Currier do they do anything different to a super flex spat and how are you using them on backing coats

They allow you to get on wet plaster without tiger striping as much, we spray then use plastics being either a trowel or the speed skim. Final going over with s*p*r*lex spats then leave untill hard and give it a quick polish with super flex again. Sorted.

This is with cpi used to cut back the surface flat instead of using a float ready for rubbing up, my old man reckons its it s**t hot, dont think it would work aswell with standard S+C.

Wouldn't sawing a timber edge across that wall achieve the same thing?

Its also good for flattening and closing in after spraying

Wouldn't have thought so and a bit of timber would cost you almost 30 notes and you would look like unprofessional pikey.

Its like saying wouldn't a wooden trowel be the same a stainless steel one

No it's not. Timber edges are excellent for scraping back S&C and a peice of skirting doesn't cost 30 quid lol.

That second video looks like a h-section edge.

Im only reporting back on the tool the thread is about as everyone seems to be giving it a hard time. This is on CPI which i think has very different characteristics to normal S+C.

Edit

my bad it is a H beam in the second vid. Havent got a vid off it straight after spraying.

Too many saturday beers!

last vid i can find

Im not here to argue whether its good or bad just saying what i think as im actually using it.

I'm not giving it hard time for the sake of it, I think I'll buy one after using a plastic trowel and seeing it's advantages in certain situations.
