Doctors are now only the first port of call, you tell them what's wrong, they send you to physio, joint specialist, for X-ray, anti inflammatories given out, they say " it's your work" I was told I should go into management by the registrar eight yrs ago, he is a consultant now and I still plaster.. " one of those things " is a favourite expression along with" it is what it is"

i get cramps in my legs doc what ur toughts on that igot one up on a scaffould the other day i was like how am i going to get down out of here

Cortisone is a type of steroid that is produced naturally by a gland in your body called the adrenal gland. Cortisol is released from the adrenal gland when your body is under stress. Natural cortisone is released into the blood stream and is relatively short-acting.
Injectable cortisone is synthetically produced and has many different trade names (e.g. Celestone, Kenalog, etc.), but is a close derivative of your body's own product. The most significant differences are that synthetic cortisone is not injected into the blood stream, but into a particular area of inflammation. Also, the synthetic cortisone is designed to act more potently and for a longer period of time (days instead of minutes).

It's not an anti inflammatory it's a steriod, 2 completely different things.
It is basically used for inflammation of the joint ,this bit ,you should be able to keep up with... Therefore ok its an anti inflammatory injection . Can you give me another purpose , I know its a steroid, the name gives that away. Another purpose please..

Dont know any other purpose mate, had loads of these myself and was always told it was a steroid. That is all.

Cortisone shots are injections that may help relieve pain and inflammation in a specific area of your body. Cortisone shots are most commonly given into joints — such as your ankle, elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, spine and wrist. Even the small joints in your hands and feet may benefit from cortisone shots.

Cortisone shots usually include a corticosteroid medication and a local anesthetic. In many cases, cortisone shots can be administered in your doctor's office. However, the number of cortisone shots you can receive in one year generally is limited because of potential side effects from the medication.

I've had them in both elbows but i was always under the impression it was to strengthen the elbow not to act as an anti inflammatory. Maybe thats me just linking steroids to bodybuilders though lol

I have had them firstly in my left knee ten yrs ago, waste of time ,three injections, worth a shot as the consultant said, but alas to no avail, had more recently in my right knee, got a couple of days out of that but the found a fragment of bone in it this June gone, had injections in my shoulder a few times too, physio hurt a nerve and the arm was useless for a few days, hard to even lift it, many people suffer badly from these injections, not to be taken lightly , basically it gives you a chance to recover, that's why plasterers change trowel size, put tape around handles for tennis elbow,

i keep getting sore Achilles tendons now ffs , i walk the dog a lot ,as the doctor said it would be good for the diabetes , but the tennis elbow has gone for now....... bloody older age is crap.... don't get old lads LOL

The alternative to not getting older is not great though, I used to,walk a lot but can't now,

Get yourself some Gel-pads. A Velcro type strap worn below the elbow. It stops the strain from wrist to elbow and has really worked for me.

Problem with the weed is the lung damage.

Who was the spread on here who had the injections and finally ended up having surgery for tennis elbow? He wanted the blood treatment but couldn't because of the damage the needles had done to his tennis elbow tendon.

Think it was NPS?
I went to my doctor for it and he was going to do it for me privately (£250) and then declined because although he can do the procedure he cannot advise on post surgery as yet. Risk of being sued and all that.

I am going to try again this winter shutdown to see if he is up to date.

As for the injections they work on some people and not on others. After all tennis elbow is damaged tendons, lots of tiny tears. These tears need time to repair. Like my previous post on tennis elbow, I was quoted 2 years recovery at 54 and that 2 years is up next month. Not spread in that time or if I have it is small amounts. I do the old mans stuff, beading up, spatting, rubbing up but applying tons of wet stuff well no, I let the fit young f*ck!rs do it and wear their joints out to save my own. It is a lot better but not fully recovered. I notice when I have a temper tantrum it comes back so stress related.

So hard for those sole workers who do not have slaves like me to do the hard work. I am lucky in that way but have took a whopping pay cut as well. So while you young ones are fit get some buy to lets and by the time your joints have gone the rents coming in give you some financial relief. There are not many of my generation still on the tools. Joint problems, heart attacks, depression and a couple have croaked it, 1 with depression the other with belly dancer.

Forgot to add, apart from the exercises my Chiro gave also consider upping your protein intake. Plenty of low calorie high protein food like milk, eggs and fish. Porridge for breaky and I also have a protein bar from Healthspan for dinner and a high protein milk drink for supper but one designed for slimming. Protein is excellent for muscle repair.

I think RMT is more of a worry.

Just for the uneducated that stands for Repetitive Miserable Threads and John is a highly contagious carrier.
I like and understand angry drunks, you just have to purse your lips and give them a wry smile..

how old are u rigsby

56

Felt 66 when I stopped work in the first year but then started going to the gym and eating healthier although I always have. Now feeling better and fitter than 10 years ago. But looking after myself as far the the joints and back bone goes. Tried to find a new career in the letting market but no joy so make the best of the job I know best.

Yes money has gone down but still holding my head above water and grateful.

Went to a spreads funeral last year (depression then suicide) same age as me and it makes you think? Be grateful for what you have got and look after your family.

Ive posted on this many a time, cortisone is a steroid end of one may only have 3 in one spot then it becomes detrimental in fact the first one will probably cause damage unless rest is incorporated ie arm in sling for three weeks after injection though your local quack wont know that, I had a successful op many years ago by the surgeon who pioneered it and NPS has recently had it also what Rigsby is talking about is an interesting development, Jermaine Defoe had it on a thigh injury last year now look at him.

My old marra is 63 and was telling me just yesterday to get out of this game before it kills me.............. but, he was a 12 pints a night man for 40 years so that ain't helped him.:-(
He has, however, enjoyed himself and made a pot of money in his time :RpS_thumbsup:
