There are loads of ridges on the ceiling (which is really f**k**g annoying because the reason for boarding it was to get rid of a textured ceiling!!) there are actually quite a few ridges, pimples and dints over the walls and ceiling. Then some patches look ok and really smooth.
It's still porous, only when I really shine it I. E grinding back when gone dark (i don't make a had it of that btw lol) does it not cover so well but after first coat dried no problem
So you don't want a member from here then to come over and look at your problems then ?

One last thing - is it normal to see the joins in the boards and the skrim? Not all are visible but some are. I mentioned it after the ceiling was "skimmed" but he said it was normal and wouldn't be noticeable after it was painted. I realise that's probably nothing when you look at the job as a whole and the shoddy work round the switches, corners etc, but just want to make sure I am prepared for what he might come back with tomorrow.

You should have ended up with a "flat, Matt finish suitable to take paint"....

I suspected as much. The more it's drying out the worse it looks and the more the faults are obvious. I mean the switches and sockets were obvious immediately but every time I look at the walls I see more that needs fixing.
Concerned now about the boards as someone mentioned above. I do know they were screwing into the joists as I heard them having a conversation about how the joists weren't running straight and they were running diagonal. Not sure about the walls - we had a damp proof coursenin so plaster had been chipped off up to a metre up he wall so he boarded up to where wall was plastered and then boarded over the whole lot. The boarding looked ok but I didn't really know what I was looking at.

If this is legit, the work is atrocious! Thou IMO, the OP has to take most tge blame. Stevie wonder would have spotted it's terrible work on the fist day. To have this nut job come back after the first day, tgen only yourself to blame.

@Kate84..... are you saying that the areas where the damp course was installed have been boarded twice?
I assume (perhaps wrongly) that the boards were stuck on using adhesive?
Adhesive onto a previously damp wall can sometimes lead to a cold bridge, and show as a patch on the decorated side. It is not usual to board twice.

Yes Boarded up to were original plaster was then boarded over the top. I had no reason to suspect this wasn't normal
kate, when the chap calls tomorrow, invite him to have a look at the room, tell him that you are not at all happy with the work. you will not be making any more payments and demand a full reimbursement of your money. if it is not in your hand in 24 hours you will report this matter to the police as it is gaining money by pretence.

Police common mate this Is going to far it's not a robbery sorry rephrase that a crime suppose I could rephrase that breaking the law ... just ask the husband to deal with it he seems a bit quiet in all this ask for the money back don't be afraid and move on ...fair play would be letting him have a chance to fix it but as far as improving it way past that.
..only messingI've no intention of calling the police, or asking for money back tbh. I'm just not giving him anymore. Don't have a husband. My partner is female too. Go on, laugh it out...two idiot women conned by a cowboy tradesman. I know (I'll laugh about in a few weeks)
