United Plasterers of U.K and Ireland

One of probs . More when your starting out in this trade is . Say there a room to be skimmed and a time served plasterer will do it in a day and charge area price say 450. . New kid may take 3 days to do it but wont be able to charge 1350 for it . If that makes sense

Or charge 1350 n do it in a day haha.

This is why it’s worth doing domestic to build a reputation. Just like if theres a shithot chippy and you want him to fit your 10k kitchen.. you’d expect to wait and pay more. Rather than just get some random in to wreck it

Haha I.m f**k**g starving and when it got to s**t hot chippy I thought you were gonna say you would be prepared to travel a bit further lol

This threads made me realise I'm probably cheaper now than when I started out 10years ago. A 4 day job back then, would probably take me 2 days now. My day rates obviously more than when I started but the customers probably getting a better deal and better plastering

Think the problem is I think "that's alot of money for a days work" rather than think that's a decent price for alot of plastering. I'm going to start charging accordingly from now on lol

I think if your busy with builders etc just put top price in on every job you price on your own . You dont need em but if you get em its xmas

Lurpak made a good point about decent spreads who are cheap being more of a problem than rough sods who are cheap. The point being that if the work is of good quality and cheap it drives down the price amd people won't pay more for a similar level of quality.

I remember not long after I started doing domestics I got talking to a customer who had his own business and he told me I was too cheap for the quality of work I was producing. His take on it was you can fill your diary with lots of cheap prices and be run off your feet thinking your doing well but in reality you are stereotyping yourself and you may struggle to break out of that.

Much better to go higher and and end up with a customer base that knows the ballpark of what you charge and what they will get in return. Much better than standing in someone's living room and seeing thier face when you give them a realistic price when they were told you were reasonable (cheap).

Wrong trade to be cheap. I could labour at my pals groundsworking company @£140 a day. Some spreads dont charge that. Madness.

Does anyone tell their lads any of this . I tell lad who works for me charge what he wants for a day. But start 8 ish be done for 4 . Done long hours when I was younger and wish I had never .
We dont have lad cant find anyone who fancies it . They all prefer to sell sniff where we live lol

We get paid per ot . If it takes 5 days or 5 weeks to do that's the price. If your a tortoise that's tough shite
That's site work you wouldn't get weeks let alone a couple of days over. Domestic is a different game you don't have to be fast to earn well, your on your own time unlike site were your told how quickly you have to go.
You know that.

What do they expect on site time wise. Me and lad did some 3 floor new builders last year and lads faster now .
Bedroom and en suite in attic
2 bed and one of them bathrooms (cant remember name the ones with two doors in to) 1st floor .
Lounge and kitchen ground floor.
Think it took us 5 and half days.
We got asked to go on site other week but I said I dont think we could make it pay.

The 1 thing I will always say is location is everything for hitting big ceiling prices on jobs!

Even sparks & plumbers struggle to hit big figures in our area!

I could book us for up now for a year on decent / average rates.

I couldnt guarantees us 2 weeks on hollywood rates!
