Oh and the grey plaster is mined in the north & pink plaster in the south, but it gets delivered all over the Uk and even to Poland. :-0

when john lang built the new airport in poland the sent the carlite plaster out there by train

was talking to a guy few yrs back and they shiped bg out to gibraltor....for some reason he didn't get on wi the spanish oono stuff supplied:rolleyes)

ALL the young lads I know nowadays who call themselves plasterers are just waste of space skimmers.
No disrespect to any of you decent lads on here (I've never met you)

Not one of em even knows the first thing about float and set.
"Why do you 'scratch' it" I got asked by a 26 year old 'spread' a few weeks ago (he saw me using hardwall)

WTF?

i used to love float and set worked on warick university for ages doing all the new student apartments in phases when i was learning the one part of it i remember best was on the outside we did a new part of one of the students halls we used this white render i cant remember what it was called but the building was nearly a circle at one end it looked mint when it was all finished cant remember the last time i used any hardwall or browning rubbing up was part of learning you learned that befroe you were let loose on the skim it was like a figure of 8 convention in those rooms:-)

no one want to have anything floated nowadays i always try to get clients to go for a nice solid floated wall but nope boards cos thier quick and easy and skill.....less (for want of a better word):RpS_cursing:

Trouble is clients want to decorate as soon as possible and don't want to wait for floated walls to dry out. Floated walls are far better though.

Well I seem to get a fair few clients to change from D&D to F&S with S&C.

He was a tutor of mine aswell and his brother Martin at lime grove it was their dads firm

was that lime grove shephards bush...oposite bbc lime grove studio?i went there....we got on kilroy one morning, tutors were real impressed when we all rolled in 2 hrs late:RpS_lol:

by the way i still call it devaling up instead of scratchin a floated wall...for one scratching is what you do wi render, and devaling is a phrase that the youngsters have never heard:RpS_thumbup:

Do you use waterproofer inside Andy?

We use a tiny amount more as a plasticiser than a waterproofer Dave. I wouldn't want to kill the suction unless I was floating over really low suction blocks where you'll get a fierce suction when setting.

To be fair I thought I was the only one....that's why I didn't say it...I was gonna say I got asked "Whats a devils float?" too but didn't want to get shot down in flames like saying "handboard"...:RpS_lol:

i was there upto 89-90....we used to play 5-aside against the brickies on the all weather pitches at white city:RpS_thumbup:

remember aston?cant remember tutors names tho...3 of 'em.

it's probably a regional thing again....sounds way more impresive than scratching tho....:RpS_thumbup:

The part time tech was john conlon great spread did you ever go to the pub on the gold hawk road with them we went in the swakeley arms most times
