    Which ladder?

I need a decent extension ladder, as close as possible to 8m. I know next to nothing about ladders, and given that I'm going to be up to 7m off the ground I'm inclined to get this purchase right first time. The ladder will be used for two primary purposes. 1. Clearing gutters 2. Attempting to...

Plastered my first wall - tips for others

Thanks Reeves. I chose the wall I did precisely because of this: out of the way, likely to end up with shelving and pictures all over it. Gotta start somewhere, unfortunately I'm not as gifted as some who did their first wall perfect... Let's see if I learn anything when the second wall goes...

ooh I see what you mean. Though now you mention it, flip the other way around and it's a bit like the playboy bunny with the ears chopped off

Plastered my first wall - tips for others

Oh I have no desire to be a plasterer. I'm strictly a DIY around the house guy who fancied giving it a pop. I picked an out of the way wall in the spare room to give it a shot, and for a first go I'm happy. If the next wall isn't better I won't be though, always learning.

Plastered my first wall - tips for others

So proud, plastered my first wall (well, skimmed). Is it perfect? Nope. Would I want it in the living room? Probably not. Good enough for the space bedroom? Absolutely. And really quite rewarding to do. And messy, oh so messy. I'd encourage anyone to give it a go. I won't tell anyone how to...

How can I fit this celotex

Jet, I'm going to be doing exactly that, another layer of celotex inbetween the joists. Does it matter if that second layer touches the first or has a slight gap? I have no idea how to get a complete seal other than shoving "normal" insulation into the gap - I don't have enough access to get...

How can I fit this celotex

Thanks chaps, Beader, I think that might be the solution. Now to find some string. Cheers

How can I fit this celotex

Thanks for the reply beader. I'm not sure I follow though, as that still prevents me from pushing the boards up close to the wood. I can't get to the other side of them to push them up tight. Well, I could, but then I'd be somewhat trapped.

How can I fit this celotex

I'm half way through installing celotex in the eves, and I've hit a problem. I don't see how I can get access to fit the last couple of pieces. The image at the bottom should show the problem, but in short: I'm installing the celotex behind the wall that will form the boundary of the room...

    Eaves wall - Insulation

Another question... Is there a good reason why the existing plasterboard was not fixed directly to the frame of the roof (the vertical wood bits that I don't know the name of), but was instead raised from them by the small strips of plasterboard that you can see in the picture. I can understand...

    Eaves wall - Insulation

Ok top priority just switched from insulation to patching that hole: I just found a squirrel in the room...

    Eaves wall - Insulation

Thanks Dan. Assuming I take this approach then do I understand right I don't need to bother insulating the room wall itself, as the insulation on the rafters will be everything I need? If that's the case I'll just whack up plasterboard and give it a skim. Cheers

    Eaves wall - Insulation

I found this after removing the 9mm plasterboard wall in the bedroom at the top of the house Basically, sod all insulation. You can't quite make it out in the photo, but there is a small hole open the outside in the far corner (half way up image, one quarter from the left). What I don't...

    Tiny holes all over wall

Other option I suppose is to remove all the existing plaster and start fresh. Or maybe try and fill the holes. Either of those sensible?
