A standard board with a coat of SBR is more waterproof. Water resistant is a way to make people pay more. If they get damp they snap over you back when you pick them up same as standard board.

I use a vonhaus one, fires crown staples and brads. It's really quick and you get your beads on really tight. On rsj's the joins are seamless. There are loads of makes now really cheap. You won't regret buying one.

It makes my laugh when there are pictures of dabs showing through. There doesn't seem to be anyone working in people's homes that knows how to dab properly and the reasons why it should be done properly.
You will never get it straight and plumb,that horse bolted when it was built. All you can do is manage the bump. As mentioned cut out about 2ft above and 2ft below the join and see what's behind. We always put a full board over the joist level to try and stop movement on timber frame.
