Just went to price an extension. 2 rooms up and 1 down, 12 foot by 12 foot with loads of making good..

Loads of steel going in, making good inside existing unknown, coving up etc. Damp proofing to do and bad access upstairs.

We went in with our price, he calls back and says he doesnt want to pay that, so we drop quite a bit. ( we dont need the work but dont like burning bridges)

He says no, I dont want to pay over a grand....we say OK bye:RpS_biggrin:

What is frustrating is, what's the point of spending a few hours going to the job..measuring it, pricing materials and labour just to be told what the price is?

He could have told me that over the phone and I could have told him to fu'ck off.....easy.

I know mate does your head in .but if he has under priced his job .that his problem ,when he rings you back ,say "sorry mate to busy "

a grand pmsl
what fncks me off is they dont want to pay anywhere near what they get paid a day, but then you go to a old ladies house (65-70+) and theyll give you the earth

Do the same as Gibbo says, they are all the same saying there is no money left in the job,cus they have had all the cream for doing fcuk all.I do some work for a local builder and he spends all his time running around doing sod all then has the audacity to tell me that he will be lucky to make 500 pound a week.Joker.Rant over.

you should not have dropped your price in the first place ! he thought that he had a monkeys pratt and chanced his luck.

Most of the builders around here are just chancers just relying on other trades to pull them out of the s**t and make money on them.
They are not the same as when i first started in this game as they wern t afraid of getting there hands dirty, have you noticed most of them have brand new vans or pick ups and all the latest work gear on??

:RpS_cursing:They always make out that you're price is too high, but they are not dropping their prices, no feckin way, I bet they price it well and still want to make coin off of your price:RpS_cursing:

Think you got the right attitude though danny when they say im not paying that.....Ok then end of conversation bye bye.........Fcuk Face.......:RpS_thumbup:. there will always be someone cheaper.......is there work up to scratch...9 times out of 10 no but its suprising what s**t work people will put up with

i went to look at a job last week dotdab a bathroom and skim, fnck about with a kitchen all units in. told him £600, he said what about cash (that was cash) £500? i knew he had more rented accommodation so fingers crossed i said go on then, in the end he had 190 odd house on his books 30 odd around my area so hopefully i get some more jobs off the old currunt

Careful with them sort NPS. Start as you mean to carry on or he'll have you over the board and stand mate!!:RpS_thumbup:

Yeah the thing is he has taken the chance of more work coming his way in the future, done it many times and got lots more work after the initial job.sometimes u have to swallow a bit.longterm it pays.

And he's already agreed to a near 20% discount!

Thing you've got to remember with these people is ''Where are the lads who have worked on his other properties?'' and why ain't they involved now? I've been there too, just don't give them much lee-way that's all I'm saying :RpS_thumbup:

he never promised any more work and never told me who he was or what he had until i said yes go on then £500 it is, had nowt on that week anyway, if i could be arsed id get the job done in 3 days so thats a tonne a day

hope it turns out to be a good deal though cos patching bits here there and everywhere for a tonne a day is a good rest:RpS_thumbup:

There's a balance though. yeah maybe a chance of more work so a small adjustment in price but experience tells me to judge each job on it's own merits.

These folk with loads of properties didn't get them from being generous I think.

ive nowt on next week so when he said £500 i errmmmed and looked and errmmed then said yes 500 if you leave me alone, hes about 70 (fit though) and looked like one of those that watch you all day ggrrrr he said ill let you in and just ring when ya done... okismoki mi old china

Priced a rather large house last week for a builder. 12 big rooms, a four storey corridor/landing and part of the cellar. All ceilings boarded, lots of walls needed patching, pva'ing, most needed boarding. 35 man days equalled £3500 labour and the materials were £2k.

So £5.5k all in....and I said I could negotiate...... Took a couple of hours of my time to travel, measure up then work it all out, down to the last screw.

I got told some other plasterer breezed in and casually said £3900 the lot....by my calculation he's working for £55 a day....

Who are these people?

Faster plasterers than you xxxx

Lol, faster and rougher I'd hazard a guess. Probably f£ck off halfway through the job too.

Had the same thing happen to me recently too. Lone spread went in a few grand lower than us on a good size job, obviously got the nod, backed out last minute. His excuse was that he could earn more on his small jobs......w**k*r!
