Dan is it you who's vat registered and on checkatrade? Do u win any internal jobs at all wen u tell customers ur vat registered etc? Just cant see sumbody wanting to pay 20% vat wen there don't need to..or is any1else on checkatrade who's vat registered?

We only do domestic, there is 5 lads and me. Since going VAT I've found that I'm only doing the larger domestic jobs now. We mostly stick to external and have a couple of builders so they don't see any problem with it and like someone else said some seem to take comfort in thinking there using a legit business and not a tradesman when there spending 000's on a full re render etc.

Since I started on my own 8 years ago I've never seen it as busy as this year so that might be a difference aswell. Demand is outstripping supply.

I'm on the certified scheme. Assessor wanted to see work from the previous day and watched me put 2 hits on and finish. Also watched me float a wall. Was surprised to see him pick up my straight edge and level to check my walls. Asked him would he have failed me if it was not spot on or would he have passed me anyways. Told me he fails more guys than he passes.

I'm sure gps will come up with another load of boll0x when he reads this

20 yrs ago had bad split and lost the plot for bit living out my motor , didn't think I was ill was only looking back I for sure wasn't right.
Took me while to get sorted again don't think your on your own plenty been down your path and looked back on it from a better place.
Just remember the s**t times and use them as stepping stones to move forward. Best of luck.

I do mate if I can. We've been flat out with the ritmo on external this year and the building stuff I've took on and pretty much left to my subbies I use. Luckily there great so I can leave them and know it's gonna be top notch.
