His quote says patch and make good on old walls, and idiots here are on about lime, breathing, etc etc, its a few fn patches, if he wanted a proper job done , it would have stated patch and re skim , a monkey can patch old walls with one hand, I hate cheap jobs like this, minimalist work but expecting a Picasso , it's the sort of job tradesmen avoid, discussing patching on here , we need an idiot section,

To a point of course, but I think he would have concerns if they did the job for free and gave him a new car on top, seeking problems where there are none I think otherwise hire a chartered surveyor who can check the process and outline its merits or demerits,he has the benefit of cheap labour already, or would an all English firm cost the same ?

I have read this thread very carefully. Can I suggest you consult a lime based company that supplies many traditional tradesmen nationally
As people get so techy with me on this site so please ask Danny the TPF site owner if I can put this name up on here or pm me
Tony
can I suggest if you know someone who sells these type of materials you talk of, to approach the owner which as you said is Danny and see if he would like to advertise on the forum, it's getting boring deleting people who come on here selling their wares any way they can without putting their hands in their pockets. I'm sure this guy who you talk of would not appreciate someone coming in their premises selling their gear.

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt he said the boss man was English, I think it's him everybody needs to aim there anger at, we all know there's customers out there that want something for nothing but I can't tell that from his posts, he's hired an English guy who's wants to make a fast buck by getting cheap Bosnians,I think anyway

I'd say more as they would have to drive from england to perth to do the job. :RpS_lol:

God flynnyman this borders on Paranoia. I know a major supplier who sells lime materials to plasterers throughout the UK, I do not sell or gain from this. My thoughts were to give the enquirer the phone number of the company so that he could get expert advice from a local plasterer. I due to people objecting to the mention of anyone that is not a sponsor I suggested that he ask Danny if i can do this. What is the point of discussion if you cannot advise someone. This is censorship gone mad.

I apologise I thought you were on about the company you owned and then left your son to run when you ****** off abroad, my mistake :(

Thanks mate. It is difficult for me because my company swims partially in the trade. I have discussed with Danny about this and I do try to judge if you actually have a seller of what is being looked for. I usually leave it for a few replies to give any sponsor to say "we can help you "
My problem is knowing who is a sponsor and who is just advertising. There are a number of products that I could offer however at the present time it is not commercially viable for me to come on board.
I do however have a wealth of contacts both in the trade, training,CITB, manufacturers and suppliers.
When I spoke to Danny earlier in the week after getting censored on fibres but not on identifying buckets I decided that it was better to refer the enquirer to Danny for approval to approach me.
I think this is the only way I can be sure not to tread on toes of your sponsors.
I do spend most my time abroad however I am confined to barracks in the UK at the moment recovering from big C op and waiting to see if it has spread so sites like this allow me some distraction.
Can I suggest that if any of the moderators feel they do not like any of my content they pm me and I will remove or rewrite anything you find unsuitable.
On my part as I said to Danny I will be as careful as I can.

Good luck with the op mate, hope you get the all clear.

i also hope you have a full recovery, it's simple how the forum works as regards products, if you sell plastering products you either work with the forum and become a sponsor or you don't advertise your products. If nobody is Advertising what you sell it's ideal for you to work with the site but doesn't give you the right to sell coz nobody else is. You advertise your products elsewhere so you know how it works I'm sure with all your years of experience and contacts you must understand how a business works so unless your a sponsor you can't sell your gear.

Thanks Flynnyman I will try not to tread on toes. I have exclusive sponsorship elsewhere because of the knowledge I put in.I only advertise on the one site except for the web of course. Trust you all understand that I am not trying to poach customers as not into general plastering but when we do enter the fray as I said to Danny this will be the first site we sponsor.

It's not about poaching customers the forum is for everyone and there are plenty of members who bring a vast amount of knowledge and experience to the forum. There are plenty of businesses who advertise on the forum and do well out of it and so do the members because of it.

I wouldnt help you at all, you have the wrong attitude, arrogant ( and im trying not to be abusive here ) who the hell do you think you are '' workmen know their place '' yeh right... you have so much bad attitude, im surprised anyones even replying to you anymore..

Who the hell do YOU think YOU are. If I'm being paid to do a job for someone with their hard earned cash, I will go out of my way to do the best job I possibly can and that job will be done in a professional manner using professional techniques and materials. And yes, I will know MY place, that will be as a hired hand. Hired for my expertise and professionalism but at the same time aware who is paying my fee.

YOU are the arrogant one, too arrogant to understand that "who pays the piper calls the tune.

Hello, I'm having some work done in my Victorian house. The walls are mostly the original lath and plaster. Although I've employed a largish company I have some questions about the plaster work being done. Most of the original Lath and plaster is sound but it has some old repair and damage. The plasterers are using 3 materials, bonding compound, Joint filler (and tape) and finishing off with Arrow-lite Joint cement. They are then sanding the Joint Cement back to a smooth finish. My question is, is this normal sound practice?

Well, I've seen a few comments here about how this is an American approach. If I were choosing to use these materials for your job there would be one major addition I wouldn't have left out. I always embed sheets of fiberglass into a bed of joint compound so the whole wall or ceiling is reinforced. The same fiberglass that you guys would use in a EWI application FIBREGLASS MESH 158G/M2 - EwiStore. Followed by 2 or 3 more coats of joint compound and sanding between coats, lots of dust and vacuuming. Rarely ever see any cracking. Prior to this finish I check for any existing plaster that has lost it's key or is loose or spalding, & I would remove those areas and replace with new lath & basecoat plaster. Other concerns would be the existing surface I may need to TSP the walls or even shellac them to create an acceptable surface to do the finishing over.

Do you mean.. bet you WERE bullied at school? I'm sure you know more about nobs than me! The word is KNOB, by the way.

Not at all mate, just this person has asked advice and has a massive attitude problem, not surprised their not happy about the work, no decent tradesman would put up with them..... people like this, annoy everyone and end up having to use tradesmen that are desperate for the work.... ie... they wouldnt be happy if the worlds best spread had done the job...

think this thread should be closed theres been plenty of answers and if there not good enough then there not good enough but this is goin nowhere
