I am of the old school, lay first coat , flatten allow to pick up if a small hit, then lay down with a new mix for second coat, the sponge I only use for curves on bonding on a stairwell. I only like working with those who do like wise.I hate helicopter plasterers who keep going in circles on a ceiling or put on walls in a hit and miss fashion, long straight strokes and everything in its time.

Are you on about the chopsy newbie Choppa................:-0

first coat lay -it -on , second coat lay-it down, then trowel it -up . sponge lol that german one coat plaster ........

what U on about then

I was just amused by this comment you made on another thread

Seems like U do little tiny G** sets and lose money. Do all awkward bits first in a big set then U won't be waiting round for next set or trowel up earlyer then put next set on and final trowel the 1st? Or just man up and put 2 bucket hits on :-]

your on about him doing little G** sets then boasting like a 2 bucket gauge is huge......IMO

Yea that's in a dif thread 1 the person was on about doing his set then saying he is waiting around for it to go off 2 it was a joke for people who have a sence of humor/ banter saying little G** hits 3 I did not boast about doing 2 bucket hits like there massive but still is a big set! 4 get a sence of humor your a bit on the petty side

Have i been taught right?

two coats always and i only use a steel trowel ! although i do alternate between stainless and spring steel trowels ,you cant polish up with a sponge ? thats the way ive been plastering for 30 years same as my old man and my granddad !

done one coating 2coating ,all looks the same when painted provided your on it quck enuff plus all diffrent backgrounds vary need,1coat ie plasterboard2 coat floated walls etc long as your happy and deffo the customer, and you get paid .then it just another feckin wall

I usually put the first coat on then flatten it then mix a small bucket for second coat then two flattens then one trowel then a dry trowel, that's how I was taught and it works for me. Each to there own I suppose.

Not this old chestnut again ,Jesus lads everything should be two coats ,even monocouche to ensure dept of material ,and reduce shrinking and cracking

What makes you think that your way is the right way?

Why don't you look it up DannyMac ,not on YouTube like the rest of the self thought cowboys under "how to skim a wall " but do some research if your really interested ,no disrespect intended

used loads of universal one coat when we lived in Aberdeen... put it on.. rule it off.. as its pulling in go over with a spatula.. then wait fukin hours.. then sponge up the fat and trowel off... defo wouldnt use a sponge on thistle finish tho.. sometimes i use the same gauge to finish a wall, depends how big the wall... usually put a gauge on , then mix up for the 2nd coat... stick whats left on reveals etc...as a decent area is 2nd coated and under control, I usually put a normal sized wall on aswell.. my reckoning is by doing an extra wall a day, that adds up to a room a week... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.. canadian keyboard by the way..lol..

I'm not interested, I already know how it's was traditionally done. I also know half a dozen other ways to finish a wall.

95% of the time I choose the slower way in which I was taught because I'm stuck in my ways.

That said, I wouldn't say that it's the right way to do it, just one of many.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Maybe you should do some research, keep an open mind. :RpS_wink:
