Knauf Airless

View attachment 11421 First of all I'd like to thank kanuf for putting up with me today lol I know am a bit forward and say what I think lol. What did I think of the airless. It's a piece of piss to use. U could take on a young lad that never plastererd before and have him doing the hole system in less than 2 weeks tbh. The taping involved is easy just put your joint compound on put your tape on and trowel it that's it. U can use scrim. But something with fire regulations on some jobs. So we sprayed the first coat on u put less on then I thought u would. But I could see why when I troweld it. It was easyr the close it in and less trowelling. We then did the 2nd coat on a other panel that was ready the day before I think. We sprayed it give it a spat or trowel and that was it. We then did a bit of sanding on a other wall. It is really easy to sand tbh. If I was doing a job with it I wouldn't try and finish it fully with the trowel even though u can. I'd use a electric telescopic sander with a dust hover connected to it. As am a lazy b*****d lol but it can be finished by trowel no problem. Am going to use it on my next job am going to hire out a machine and see how I get on in the real world but I can't see there being a problem tbh. I'd say it's a 3 day finish or maybe 2. The finish is top end and can be achieved by a novice which is worrying. The airless plaster is a lot lot easier on the body for sure. Skim still has its place for small jobs. But anything that would take 3 days or more i would use the airless finish. Downside for me would be the taping. I would say go and have a go of it for sure.

I'll tell you they know there stuff. No bullshit they didn't try to over sell the airless finish. When you see that you know it's a good product.

What's it like on reskims? Can it go over a floated wall in sand and cement or other backings? Like if there was a mixture of reskim and chases. Would you still need to prime the wall? What's the thickness once finished? Does it set hard? @Curry

How would this stuff work with the absolute shite boarding that spreads are expected to go over?
This is applied at at what thickness?
I'm just thinking in an ideal world the boards are cut neat and no gaps etc but in reality chunks are missing, gaps are bigger than wages between north and south things run out of level etc and I'm talking new build!
God knows what would be needed for reskim.
You can only sand it so much before you'll hit the original backing?

U would have to bond the walls out like you would with skim. I'd tape the joints up that would help a bit. Then use airless backing to get it right. Then finish with airless finish. I spent a few hours with kanuf and I think am a problem lol

It can go straight on to plasterboard I think he said at 3mm each time . Don't know how long to dry. I think he said u can build the backing up to 8mm.

Won't that add even more time to the job eating profit? Or can you go straight over the backing coat?

A lad said this system has been around for years and it ain't took off in uk.
Makes no difference to me if it's a success.
Only do taping on a need to basis.

I don't know on till I try it tbh. I suppose u could spend a half day to a day prepping on a job. As i said before its a 2 to 3 day system. But I think u would get time back if you where doing 3 or 4 rooms re skimming. No mixing less bags to take in no mess no stilts no thrown in on far less troweling a better finish. U could have your labourer finishing full rooms and be paying him f**k all lol and the work is piss easy. U think I was doing it all my life lol at the end of the day it's not skim. As i said skim still has its place if you are doing 2 or 3 rooms. O i was told u can get a fan in and be able to do the hole system in one day.
